Is it normal that i hate showering?

I really don't like showering or bathing. I use baby wipes to wipe my face and everywhere that gets smelly so that I don't have to shower every day. I only shower when I have to wash my hair (once a week) or if I become smelly. The rest of the time I use the baby wipes, sometimes two or three times per day. In Western middle-class society, does that make me completely abnormal?

I don't understand why people are insisting that this is a troll post. Some people have sensory issues that make showering very unpleasant. I think it's pretty common for autistic people, for example.

To clarify, I'm not trying to diagnose you with anything, I'm just saying that I know of people who have this in common with you, and that it's strange that people would assume that you're trolling.

      • That's right. I just don't like the feeling of water on my skin. I never go swimming either. I never had this problem before I went on painkillers for my bad back (from playing the viola) but that's a whole other issue which I am addressing with success.
When my husband broke his leg, he couldn't shower, so the nurses bathed him with "hydrobath" towelettes which are the same as baby wipes and he smelled like a rose all day long.
For the record, I don't usually smell and when I do, I wipe and if that doesn't work, I shower. My husband would tell me if I smelled bad.
Most people waste over one kilolitre of water per month on bathing which is OK if you live in Canada but it's not OK if you live in Israel where water is scarce. It is not necessary to use lots of water to clean a human.

Showering/bathing every day is actually a bit too much, in my opinion. But you could do with upping your once a week habit! You could try three times a week. In the colder months I tend to shower 3-4 times a week. A hot Summer might be cause for every day showering. But every day all year round isn't that good for your skin. And with most people, there usually isn't the need for it either, it's just become a habit.

  • OK guys. You've succeeded in convincing me that it's not normal and I need to change. I've decided to force myself to have a shower everyday. I'll use the baby wipes in addition to one daily shower. But I'm not willing to have more than one shower per day. No fricking way. So no more comments, please, apart from comments of support about the fact that I've seen the light and this website obviously works.

I think you should definitely shower. I mean, even if you don't do it everyday, at least do it every other day. Its just disgusting if you don't.

Are you just 'lazy' or do you hate the water? Disliking water is a p-r-o-b-l-e-m.

there's a reason why we're meant to shower everyday, it's because our dead skin cells need to be washed so that our skin can breathe. if you don't shower, dead skin clogs up your body.. that's disgusting

Please please please shower, it's good for you as it's washing excess dirt, debris and oil off, if you're fussed about it, you could make it a more pleasurable experience by having a bath with some bath milk and and after you've soaked it up have a quick soak up and wash off.:) I know you don't like doing it but it is healthier for you and it'll help prevent break outs and spots. Do you have a skin condition that stings when you shower? I used to have severe eczema and it seriously stung when I had a bath, because if you do, I have some suggestions for you. xx

Sometimes we have to do things we dislike as a courtesy for others. While showering may feel unpleasant, the smell you create causes WAY MORE people around you nauseous. While you cannot smell yourself, others can. I dislike the feeling of brushing my teeth, but I do it anyway.

Shower. For the love of humanity.

Regardless of whether or not it's normal, at least you do something about it. Baby wipes may be somewhat unorthodox, but it's better than not cleaning at all. When people don't like to shower out of laziness, that's gross.

I live in a tropical island and I HAVE to shower everyday but I understand that depending on where you live you might not feel the need to shower that often. When I go camping with friends I use baby wipes just like you;)

No. It's not normal and nor is it hygienic. There are times where I skip taking a shower, but when that happens I don't leave the house. What do you do when you're on your period? (I assume that you are a female). In most cultures this isn't considered normal.

    • When I have my period, I shower more often so I don't smell. But I don't enjoy it. The showers I do take when i don't have my period (at least once a week) are long because I have to exfoliate a lot more than someone who showers every day.

It's not normal, although my brother is similar in his resistance to anything involving submersion in water... Perhaps it's a phobia?

Also regarding "In Western middle-class society..." it's actually pretty abnormal in all societies not to wash. Humans of all socioeconomic strata wash, whether in a shower, bath, river or the sea. It's very natural and isn't a modern invention.

It's not NORMAL, per se, but it's still ok. You don't need to shower every day. Remember, people in ancient times used to go months without bathing. The Viking peoples bathed once a week, and that was thought of as being strange by the Christians of Europe.
