Is it normal that i hated student teaching?
I absolutely hated it... felt like I was thrown into a pack of dogs by the other teachers and the system. The kids and teaching were awesome- but I hated the rest of it.

Thanks guys- I've decided I am going to look into private schools. Looks like less focus on testing and more support for teachers.
I'm interning as a student teacher now and I don't hate it (because if I think that way I will), but it sucks.
Like the Elementary school I'm interning at blows. BLOWS!!!!!!!!
Zero organization x "adults" who "do everything my way at my pace" x "the local pyramid scheme" =chaos!!!
I understand that the kids you're teaching are awesome because so are mine (4th graders who listen very well).
And my homework that I have to "find the time" for isn't a problem, I can do homework, but the bullshit of student teaching is so broad that I just put my hand on my forehead all the time.
Teachers and faculty really can act like you know what they want and where they're coming from, and what they're problems are...it's unreal. They need to tell you these things. They're your teachers too, they should be teaching you.
My idea is to focus on the students and improvise if I have to because I'm in Elementary Education for them, not this political/social/personal game of nonsense.
"Zero organization x "adults" who "do everything my way at my pace" x "the local pyramid scheme" =chaos!!!" EXACTLY :)
"Teachers and faculty really can act like you know what they want and where they're coming from, and what they're problems are...it's unreal. They need to tell you these things. They're your teachers too, they should be teaching you." - PERFECT!
I quit just before my student teaching semester because the system ground me to powder. If you're someone who chafes under the yoke of authoritarian bureaucratic presence, you're dealing with the absolute most you're likely to feel. After you graduate, you'll be able to focus more on real teaching and less on the administrative and bureaucratic bullshit.
More power to you for doing what I couldn't make myself do.
