Is it normal that i have no religious beliefs?

Hello :)
This is my first post, by the way.
I have no religious beliefs at all. I do respect those who are religious and are able to believe in a religion, though.

It doesn't matter what religion it is either as long as you are not hurting anyone emotionally or physically. I just personally can't perform that leap of faith. I don't think I'm an atheist because I think that there might be a God. I am just uncertain and I don't believe in anything, really. I just think it's important to be a good person and to try and help others. Be healthy, and happy and love one another :)

I don't think it's common because most people do believe in God while others don't at all. I'm just uncertain. Is this normal?

Organized religion is for those who are afraid to think for themselves.

    Don't doubt yourself.

You don't say, but I presume you're still relatively young, and that's why you question your understanding.

Don't, you're right on the nail.

Feel blessed to have realised early that which others may never in a lifetime, and accept that others believe what they believe also.

I can't give you as much insight as the other posters but I'm pretty sure that you're what's called "Agnostic"

basically it means you're open to and respect the concept of religion and a higher power but you're too skeptic to want in on it :]

I know exactly what you mean and I think you're on the right track. I can't stand organized religion because I think people should believe what they want to believe and that we should all do unto others because we want to be good people, not because we don't want to burn in hell. Religion has also caused so many wars and deaths and it divides so many people when really, we should all just not give a shit about what other people believe.

You don't need religion in order to be spiritual. It's a lot more common than you think. All of my friends feel exactly the same way I do, but I surround myself with liberal people because I normally can't stand Republicans :) Not on principle, I just normally don't agree with them on anything that I think is important, so I avoid them.

Anyways, just keep on doing what you're doing. You seem like a really cool person with a good head on your shoulders. Keep an open mind and if there is a God, I'm sure he would appreciate you living the way he would want you to without begging for his direction every five minutes.

"I don't think I'm an atheist because I think that there might be a God."

What you describe is being 'agnostic'. The belief that there is something out there, possibly a higher power, creator or another civilisation where we may have come from.

Im 26 and have no religious beliefs but feel we MUST have come from somewhere, Im not sure If I believe in evolution... starting out as an amoeba working our way through sea creatures, primates and now humans.

To tell the truth... I have no idea, just a feeling we must have come from somewhere.

And in more honesty, I feel like i live my life trying to be a good person... trying not to hurt people etc... But more importantly enjoying myself and feeling good (all the while trying not to do harm).

I have my views on politics and war and I dont personally do drugs but dont begrudge those that do. Im often anti-religion, largely due to religiously lead war/conflict...

Its completely normal... Its maybe a bit more normal in the UK, where Im from than the US which was built on anglo-christian beliefs. But even there... completely normal!

I don't either. You decide what you believe, others don't decide for you so don't be forced one way or the other. You're not "god fearing" but you're certainly decent.

Also, I heard somewhere that 99%% of Americans know god exists. personally I think 99%% is a number that you would use to influence people, not to convey fact. Why not 82%%? Why does Dettol kill 99.9 percent of germs? could it be because 99.9%% influences people to buy Dettol?

I heard somewhere that the percentage is 17 percent. In the UK, where I live, according to the 2000 census it's around 27 percent. The figure has probably changed somewhat in almost 10 years though.

  • I know how you feel. im in high school but i have read so much and learned alot between different religions it's hard to believe in one. i thinks its because i know to much that makes it hard for to have some king of faith. im only 16 but i have alot to learn about faith through my life and i was born roman catholic. you should live a life your your morals and values that you make. i would recommend you read of different religions and maybe find the one that you think fits.

i live by the basic human morals like treat people how they treat you.
    have sex when your ready
don't harm something that hasen't harmed you.
do well to your body by not doing drugs.
knowledge is a gift not a right
    help others.

    hope my advice helped you.
