Is it normal that i have trouble making friends my age?

I've always had an above average IQ and as a result can never seem to fit in with people my age. I go to a special school for the deaf so the population of the school is only about 75 so there is not a lot of options to choose from, out of those 75 only about 10 I can stand having stupid conversations with, there's even fewer I can have real an intellectual conversation with. Is it normal to want to seek out older people to talk to?

Yes. And there's nothing wrong with that. But don't give up entirely on having friends your own age.
You do have to compromise. And you may even have to learn to dumb yourself down a little bit (I know it sounds bad. And that wasn't a deaf/dumb joke btw, I would never make a joke like that) for the sake of having a few allies you can relate to on some level.
Sometimes, it doesn't matter what the conversation is about, the need to have companions trumps the need to actually be stimulated. Sometimes.

Being deaf makes socializing difficult. It also prevents social development. Online friends might be a good idea for you.

Sure. Why wouldn't it be normal?
