Is it normal that i hear voices just before falling asleep?

Okey like I don't know how to describe it but when I close my eyes and that I'm about to fall asleep I hear some voices saying things, like really short sentences or even just my name. Most of the time I know the voices, it can be my dad's voice or even the voice of my English teacher... So does it happens to you too guys?

you are welcome the main thing is to know most people have them at some point in time . doesn't mean you are crazy it just mean you are human. so long as you now about them and understand them you no longer need to fear them. i get them perhaps 5 time a year ? just s few words or even one word. and always just before falling asleep. sometimes i recognize the voice as my dad or mother's voice.

auditory hallucinations are a real thing. they are not very important when they occur just before sleep as thats when they should occur. Our minds leak energy and tigger nerves sometimes and the result is sound that doesn't exist.

It's not a sound that's existing at the very moment you're falling asleep, it's a sound that has existed to you recently before you hear the voice in your head as you're falling asleep. Like with the op saying how he hears his dad's voice or his english teacher's voice in his head, it's probably because he had recently talked to them so the memory of their voices are still in his head and playing on him as he's falling asleep. It's kind of the same thing as a song playing in your head after recently hearing it. Our memories come back and play on us. It's the same reason we'll often dream about people we've recently seen. It's just how our brains play.

It's your brain playing on you as it's switching to sleep mode.

It's called hypnagogia or a hypnogogic hallucination, and it's nothing to worry about.

It's not uncommon to have hallucinations involving any of the senses as the brain shifts to a sleep state. I remember being a little freaked out by this phenomenon when I was about 13. I'd come home from my first "real" job picking raspberries and fell asleep on the lawn. As I was drifting off, I saw a row of raspberry canes in front of me in vivid detail and felt the texture of the fruit between my fingers and thumb.

I've experienced this at other times since then. I don't recall ever hearing voices, but I do see things in a semi-dream state and I've experienced phantom whole-body motion after a day sailing or driving.

I wouldn't even really call it a phenomenon, hearing voices as you're falling asleep is just your memory playing on you, since you're most likely hearing voices that you recently heard.

Thank you for your answer! I was kinda scared at first because when I talked about it to one of my friend he told me that it was schizophrenia or something 😅

Sleep paralysis is an even more disturbing experience than hypnagogia: as you're falling asleep or waking up, it's possible to be conscious but totally incapable of movement, and to experience hallucinations and vague feelings of terror.

This happened to me once when I was staying alone in an unfamiliar house. I was on the verge of drifting off to sleep when a faint sound in the house woke me. I was totally conscious but unable to move - not even to open my eyes - and I was absolutely convinced that the very faint creaking sound was caused by someone (or something) creeping up the stairs towards my bedroom. I don't know how long I lay there terrified, but the next thing I knew, I was waking up in the morning.

Yes, I feel you, I've experienced sleep paralysis two month ago... It was seriously creepy, I was only able to move my eyes and then I felt like there was a humanoid figure on my stomach, it was breathing in my neck but I wasn't seeing anything since it was dark in my room. Probably one of the worst experience.

Well, that's the first time that I'm seeing it but it's surely a really great representation of sleep paralysis

        • I've had sleep paralysis, only once, but I think hearing someone call my name as I drift off would be the most disturbing.

You're not schizophrenic, hearing voices as you're falling asleep is just your memory playing on you, because you probably recently heard the voices that are still in your mind. We all get this.

I had a dream that I could not move or not move much. I woke up and found myself almost paralysis. I was eventually move and got to feet but I was very unsteady. It took a while before I could move normally. It was very strange to say the least.
