Is it normal that i hit my head against a wall when im stressed?

Recently I've been very stressed, and I often get an urge to hit my head against a wall really hard, it hurts but when I'm stressed my head gets this cold, numb feeling, and the pain takes it away, I know it isn't good to hit my head against a wall, but is the urge normal?

I feel like tv popularized that act, because honestly when I was a kid and stressed that's what I did just cause I thought that was a normal way to deal with my problems. But in actuality it's really not and it's also not good for you. If you want to relieve some stress try these: taking a shower, masturbating, jogging, going for a walk, or just take a break. Just don't forget to do the assignment.

Apparently autistic children do this kind of stuff sometimes. http://treatautism.ca/understanding-autistic-behaviours/

    • That's what I was thinking. It's good for dramatic effect though.

when i was a kid i often did this. my parents called me hard headed. as i grew up i still do it sometimes. my head is now harded=) so now when i hit my head on the fridge i make dents. when i hit my head on the clock i broke the LED screen. when i did it to the house wall (totally didnt see this comming) i broke it and my head went right through ahahahahahaha. totally normal man. ignore other people. just make sure you hit the top front of your head on something normal. when i got really frustrated i would continuously hit my head on brick walls until i bled heavily on my forehead. its not the best way to deal with anger, i know. but hey it makes your head strong ;)

Hitting one's head against the wall is considered as a kind of self-mutilation as much as cutting oneself, pulling out one's hair, breaking one's bones and so on. When you're hurting, your body releases endorphins which explain the feeling of numbness and well-being you feel afterwards.

A lot of people prefers feeling physical pain rather than emotional distress. A lot of people can become addictive to that kind of pain, and getting the urge to do it again.

This is a serious problem that could get worse. You have to seek professionnal help to deal with your stress and find safe methods to learn how to relax.

  • Release a giant load every 2 hours and you won't have enough zinc left in your body to even get stressed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AinF06mBUhs This explains my injury, how I feel, what I do now taking notes in detail, and how I walk, etc. It's a short Ted talk.

people are mean because I don't like I'm autistic and they thought since I was shy and didn't say much and was really nice that was a good target. fuck em, they ruined my life.

I really hope you didn't do this because I did and gave myself a concussion so bad I'm on disability for life and have headaches everyday so bad that a cry and wear an ice pack head wrap for tmj around my head. I did it because I was bullied in h.s., had a gun pulled on me twice, was molested when I little, and dated raped by the same guy who pulled the rifle on me so for you to want to do this simply because you're failing is absurd. You're stronger than that. I own my own home now and a small eBay business. If I can make it you can. Be safe and God bless.

Omg if stupidity comes from head banging all of you people must of been dropped as babies. HONEY NONE OF THESE PEOPLE ARE PROFESIONALS. this type of stress managment is normal, although its not healthy. It is normal. Can i suggest calling life line on 131114 if your in australia. Ask for some stress managment advice. These people are saying all the wrong things. Its easy for people to not know what to say, most of us are so ignorant. But the people that have just simply picked on you. Please find some satasfaction in the idea that they run their lives like this, and although they wont admit it, there live suck, or will eventually with their mentality. Call a professional. But please remember its a normal way of dealing with stress if you havent learnt better techniques yet.

Hit it harder. You won't feel the pain as much and it relieves stress.

you have no idea shnaz until you do it urself and live with what i'm dealing with a post traumatic brain injury, look it up, knowledge is everything. I might be autistic and have post traumatic brain injury but I use my more than ever now. most people only 10% of their brain and I probably 40% of mine.

That's a form of self injury. I unconsciously do this as well as some other things when I'm stressed. But, it is not the best way to deal with it.

Stop doing that! You are putting yourself at risk for brain injury and brain trauma. Please consult a neurologist to make sure you haven't caused any internal and PERMANENT DAMAGE. You might also want to consult a therapist to help treat your stress andd find better ways of dealing with it.
