Is it normal that i judge those who send their kids to private school?

Is it normal that I judge people who send their kids to private school rather than public? If the child has a learning disability or is exceptionally gifted, I can understand.

Spending upwards of 10,000 dollars a year for a child between the age of 5-18 seems ridiculous when you can get a public education for free. Especially private elementary schools.

  • I have no problem with it. It's their money. they've worked for it and can spend it how ever they want. I can't stand when people expect the well-off to donate.

I find it extremely depressing that the majority of people voted 'yes' to this. No, it is not normal to judge how some one wants to spend their money on educational programs. If they want to send their kids to a private school for a better education that's their business, not yours.

I used to go to a private school it was kinda a waste of money but it was important to my religon and because both my parents went there their whole childhood. And just because we go to a private school doesnt mean were rich or snotty. The people at my school are extremly nice and my parent cant even afford school pictures. So please dont think of private school kids as rich or snotty.

Did you go through a public education? Isn't it absolutely horrible? If I could afford it I would send my future kids to a private school with more facilities, better teachers, and better learning equipment.

I went to a NYC public high school and didn't realize how terrible it was until I saw a public school in a well off area of long island. They had large parking lots, guidance counselors who cared that each student went to college, lab equipment that was frequently used, and a very successful theater/orchestra program.

If a private school is even better than that, school, I would not allow my kids to go to a NYC public school.

  • I went a private school only because my parents wanted me to learn from the best! I do think it's over priced, but in public school (my kids go to PS) you don't get the same learning experience, for example there is more kids in a class in PS which if your kid doesn't understand the subject, it's less likely they will learn it faster and better, because there is more kids to teach, in a private school you have your teacher helping you through everything! But yes it's way to much money.

(I'm not some rich bitch btw. It was a smaller, cheaper private school and my parents saved their pennies giving me a good education)

Well, if you have the money and want to give your child a good education, what's wrong with that? I didn't necessarily like going to a catholic school for my early education, but the teachers there pushed us harder and I learned a lot more there than I learned in public school.

Why do you care what other people do with their money?

  • The only problem I have with private schools is that they are excessively expensive. I dont see whats wrong with sending your children there if you have enough money though.

I went to a semi-private high school myself. I think that had the perfect balance. Best years of my life..

I agree. I you want to splash the cash, maybe splash it on a charity or something like that. It is stupid to spend that much money on private education, when others could benefit so much more from thesame money.

Private schools are not the same as public schools. I've been to both. I've yet to have a teacher at private schools I disliked. In public schools I always ended up with brain-washing, angry, wealth-hating individuals. Charities are great but come on! You really think if a person has worked their ass off they shouldn't spring to see their hard work be put towards a nice car or their child's well being

  • My parents sent me to a Catholic school in grades K-8. I would have loved to go to public school, it was terrible. After high school I knew that I should have gone to public school.

I personally have no problem with private school but everyone else in my family does. I once came home from school and my uncle was over. He thought my uniform looked like a private school uniform (even though it is as far from it as posible) and said "oh god, they've gone to the dark side!" I think they are a massive waste of money and completely pointless but I don't.... you know what, I hate private schools! All the kids are snobby and they don't learn anything because the teachers are too overpowering, forcing information down their throats but not letting them figure out anything for themselves. At public schools the teachers don't try as hard teach you and you learn by yourself. I really hate one gender schools! There are so many better things you can spend that amount of money on. Every person I have met who has been to both says they prefer the public schools and learn more from them.

  • I'll tell the government to stop hiring hobos to fill in roles of teachers for public schools, happy now? I think it's a waste of money too. Then your kid ends up being a junky and you wonder why he/she ended up that way because he went to private school which ''made him/her better''.
