Is it normal that i let a snake bite me to get over my fear of snakes

I used to be afraid of snakes, then I saw a gardner snake and at first was thinking: "yikes a snake" and started running away then paused and thought "It's not poisonous, and if I let it bite me then that could help me get over my fear of snakes."
So though I was very afraid while approaching it I made myself get closer to it and bugged it for awhile and then it bit me. And afterwards now I am no longer afraid of snakes. There was pain but it was just pain, and I bandaged it up, looking at the bandage reminds me of how insignificant it was to be attacked by a snake and now I'm no longer afraid.

That's hardly a snake. May as well be a worm, but whatever does it for ya. I wonder, should people who are afraid of death kill themselves to get over it?

My huband use to be afraid of bees when he was a kid. So his dad made him tend bee hives to get over it. It worked.

Well aside from the getting bitten part that's pretty much how behavioral conditioning works for people trying to overcome phobias. A routine of slowly exposing yourself to the thing which you fear until it doesn't frighten you anymore.

Plus it's just just a teensy little snakie poo, I bet you were barely scratched. :P Just don't go poking at any copperheads or anything like that.

Sometimes, facing your fears is the best way to treat them. I've heard of a few people who were scared of heights learning to how to fly planes. On a few occasions I've considered doing this. As for your method, It not really something I advise. You have to really know your snakes and you are lucky that you got the type right. Just because the bite on this one was minor, don't go around thinking that you are impervious to snakes.

Strange way of remedying your fear for snakes.
What if you were afraid if death? You'd die to get over it?!
Please don't try doing the same tactic of overcoming your fears, for your safety and others.

Naturally if there was a big enough risk (or big enough negative certainty) I wouldn't have done it. But I knew the snake wasn't poisonous and so I'd just get a cut and it would heal.

Fear of death? Maybe I'll go skydiving (with a parachute of course) and just imagine that I'm falling to my death before I open the parachute.
