This is a perfect example of "morbid curiosity". Many people have an interest in the darker side of humanity, hence the popularity of crime thrillers. The fact that the cases you watch are real just adds to that level of excitement and believability. You're not just dipping your toe into fiction, you're watching an adapted piece of crime history.

It's only not normal if you begin to idolise psychopaths, because that suggests you strongly identify with their actions and values, and perhaps indicates an aspiration to achieve a similar level of notoriety for similar criminal acts.

It's normal only as long as you don't decide to become one.

I find the subject interesting also. Any thing to do with human functioning (ei hoarders, intervention, first 48 the list goes on) very interesting.

Lots of people like these subjects, hence all the TV shows, movies and books about true crime. The bookstores have whole aisles dedicated to true crime. Obviously it's a subject of high interest.

Dateline, 20/20, Disappeared, I (almost) Got Away With It, The First 48, Forensic Files, The New Detactives, Cops, the Bio channel does episodes on killers, and so on.

my mom reads books about true crime/murder. i'm not morbid or anything, but it's interesting to think about how their minds work, and what drives them to kill.
