Is it normal that i like the smell of motors?

I was making cookies with my bff and the cookiedough was so thick that the mixer was going really slow and making funny sounds, got kinda hot and started to smell weird. She thought we should shut it off but I told her it was fine and just kept going because it was fun. 5 minutes later it started smoking and the smell got stronger and I kinda liked it.
I have a box fan in my room and I like to turn it on lay it down and either step on it or sit on it so its trying to turn but I won't let it and after a while it gets warm and starts to smell almost like the mixer. It works faster on high so I do it like every day (it makes me feel evil and I love it >:]). My friend thinks its weird and she doesn't think the smell is that great. Its gotten to the point where I think I should be on My Strange Addiction lol. If anything has a motor I try to stop it to see if it smells. Am I a weirdo?

I LOVE the smell of engines and exhaust and machinery. Small kitchen appliance smells are pretty potent. I've ruined a bag of sunchips and a loaf of bread that was sitting next to my blender when it burned up. The smell was in the cupboard for days. However the smell of my husbands semi and stuff like that I love. I remember when I was in grade school, in the winter my Dad would go start up his Dodge diesel while hooking up his trailer. The smell of the exhaust some how made it all the way upstairs into my room. While I was laying in bed I could smell it and hear the nice rumble of his truck. My husband and I live by the airport and once in a while you can smell jet fuel. I love the smell of my engine on my sportbike when I'm done riding. It's an 08 but it still has a new smell burning off it once in a while. I am a smell-person. Any smell can trigger a vivid memory and that one smell can sent me off on a story or a memory for several minutes.

I agree with your friend. It's pretty weird and you should probably stop. Also, I don't think it's good for either your health or the motors.

So is it the smell of the motor burning or running that you like?

Running smell: (like a cordless drill) is ozone.

Burning smell: is burning motor winding insulation and varnish and are probably laced with all kinds of organic poisons and carcinogens. I'd quit if it was that one.

I like the oxone smell myself, but burning windings smell vividly reminds me of some really scary experiences.
