I like to listen to listen to Ave Maria (Schubert) although I am an Atheist.
(Ave Maria means Hail Mary and is a Catholic prayer)
I have it on my iPod & I'm not a religious person or a big opera listener. I happen to love the woman's voice singing it. Also it tends to relax me.
It's a beautiful song. That's all that matters, I think.
I'm no longer a Christian, but I still listen to some Christian songs cos I like them.
Obviously. I love that, I don't see why I should stop listening to it just because it's religious. There are a lot of songs that I listen to that are about religion, although not all Christianity. I don't see why you have to believe in the religion to listen to music about it. I mean, I don't have to take drugs to listen to songs about drugs, do I?:S This doesn't make much sense to me.
Yeah there's this band that I like most of there songs have to do with god but the lyrics are peaceful. I do not believe in god but I still like the music
My best friend is named Ava Marie and I'm an atheist but every year on her b day I sing that don't to her not be cause she is a Christian but because the song means the world to her
Even if you are not religious, as a human being, you are spiritual. You get the non-material, emotional, psychological and social realities of the human condition.
So while much ancient (older) human art is wrapped in the dogma of religion that need not, thankfully, stop you from deeply appreciating the Artist's creation and experiencing it's heartfelt joy and beauty.
Atheist's aren't anything, they're what every non-religious person was five years ago before everyone picked up on this "identity fad".
It used to be "I don't believe in god, because that's fucking stupid" but now it's all "I'm an Atheist, oh la dee da"

I'm not religious, but I like many religious works just like many other people. Your question is as stupid as the term "Atheist".

The word "atheism" is a mere amalgamation of the beliefs held by the people who do not believe in god. It is not a mere "identity fad", it just sums up our beliefs and morals we share as atheists.
The word "atheist" means a non-religious person. It is a better and shorter way of just saying it. It is vocabulary, and not a different class of people it self.
And, if you're uncomfortable with the word, by being an Atheist, I mean that I don't believe in god because there is no proof that it exists and the basic ideology is flawed.
The term Atheist isn't a new word or a fad. It's almost as old as Protestantism.

If you said "I'm an atheist" in '05 people would be like "wtf are you talking about?". It always existed but it wasn't used by every teenager under the sun until a few years ago, thus "fad".

Nobody bothered calling themselves "atheist" a few years ago, thus it's a "fad". The word was spread around the general masses by "Family Guy" of all things for fucks sake.

What the fuck did I say? My friends found it questionable that I listen to a Catholic prayer, even though I claim that I have no faith in god whatsoever.
Additionally, I come from India. A country where crazy things happen in the name of god and atheism is not widely appreciated.
Plus, I did not lose faith in god due to some shitty American sit-com. Certain circumstances and things happened which made me lose faith it the whole ideology of a deity.
