Is it normal that i live in a world inside my head?

I live in a world that is inside my head, a place where i lose touch with reality. I've been doing this for as long as i can remember. Whenever i'm alone i space off and go into the world in my head, It really feels like i'm living in another world! I know its not real, but i can almost feel, hear, and see everything. I feel like i'm going crazy, and i'm starting believe i am. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a name for this? Is this normal?

    Daydreaming/escapism?

I do it too. Not as much as I use too but when I do and something/one interrupts me I get really pissed off. XD

I live in an imaginary world too. It revolves around my favorite fictional characters - daydreaming about being friends with them and them having relationships and families with each other.

I realize it's a coping mechanism but I don't think of it as a bad thing. In fact, one psychologist I spoke to said that the emotional/psychological damage I suffered as a result of being bullied would have been much worse if I had not created an imaginary world to escape to.

My daydreams are all about fictional characters i loved growing up, its nice knowing i'm not the only one who does that. Thanks your comment made me feel better about myself. :)

I'm glad. Making people feel better by showing them they're not alone is the reason I use this site. :)

Sometimes when I'm having sleeping problems I can go into a kind of waking sleep where both hemispheres of my mind separate and start "talking" to each other. Usually it's very tedious and the waking side of me can't wait for it to be over but sometimes it's fun. Like the time I tried to deconstruct the action of taking a bus ride into chemistry. I don't mean the bus or me or anything physical, I mean the thought of taking a ride. The instance of it. Bah, it's difficult to explain.

Although I am the same way I voted that it is not normal. I don't know your situation, but with me it works as a self-defense mechanism where I escape into my mind to avoid reality. It has almost become an addiction. I know that this is not healthy behavior, but I will avoid that problem too.
