Is it normal that i love reading so much?

I've preferred reading over almost any other hobby ever since I was three or four. I'd always want to go to the library when I had the chance. As I got older, I began to like reading even more. I read in the car, while I ate, during my school recesses, and sometimes in class (which got me sent to the school office for constantly not paying attention and reading in class. Then I'd just spend my time in the office reading some more.) Now it sometimes gets to the point where I'll skip meals just so I can have more time reading, and I can read for five hours straight without losing interest. It may be making me smarter, but I think I might have become a little less social and more reclusive because of this. Is it normal?

Yes, that's normal. I went through a stage in my life when I was like that. It's very normal. Reading is awesome. I recommend that if you're buying your books, to know already where you're going to put them. Don't be like me and have them all piled up with no space left. Sigh.

I like reading, but I'd disagree and say it's not normal, in fact, it's very bad. Skipping meals? Not even socialising? Really?

I don't see how it's not normal, it might be unusual, but it's definitely normal. You can pretty much become addicted to anything you like.

many people are like this. If the urge gets strong enough they will eat. I do. I have friends but I haven't spent much time with them lately. Reading is good for you. raises your IQ

Yeah I know it's good, and I do enjoy reading a good book at night in bed (even if i don't really have time nowadays) but I doubt any psychologist would recommend that excess, not eating or socialising just because of that

It's not normal but better than the 8 hours a lot of us spend surfing on the internet. :|

The more you read, the better - to almost no limit. You should probably make sure you're eating enough, and sleeping, but other than that you could read all day and it would do you nothing but good. Being social is overrated. I'm one of the most introverted people you'll ever meet, and hey, I'm not dead yet, am I? Do what you enjoy, life is too short to be worried about things like this.

I absolutely love reading. all my friends think im crazy. they invite me over but I'd much rather stay at home and read. I put off eating for long periods of time until i either finish the book or the huger gets so bad that I can't think straigt. I can read a 500 page book in one day. I will lock myself in my room and not come out for hours just reading. I still eat alot even though i put it off for a while, i am naturally underweight. I have'nt been losing weight. I have plenty of friends im close to. But i find myself forgetting stuff that dosen't have anything to do with the book. I'm so into this one that my friends had to remind me that my birthday is coming up. I personally love doing this and i don't want to stop reading so much.

I wish I was a little more like you. My reading speed is so slow that I cant really enjoy much of what I read. Its like being drip fed the story. I often just get the audio book. I am ok with non-fiction books though.

I think it is normal, but anything in excess is a poison. So if you feel like its getting in the way of things then maybe reign it in a bit.

I was given two advices when I went through this stage myself: 1. Nothing in excess! (not even reading); AND 2. There are useful things that cannot be learnt from books (this one I crashed into). By the way, be sure that what you read is actually well written and edifying, not merely entertaining (down with the "best sellers"!). You can never go wrong with the classics and if you haven't had the chance to meet them I suggest the "Harvard Classics" collection. I wish I had stumbled upon them in my day.

Most of the time I'm reading either classics, historical fiction, and sometimes mangas. I rarely take an interest in bestsellers.
