Is it normal that i'm afraid of walking under large tree roots?

Okay so there's this creek in my back yard and the water is only a few inches deep but its like a canyon that's 6 feet deep and the water is flowing at the bottom. There are multiple trees along the edges if the banks. On some of them, the roots are huge and come out of the ground about 4 feet above the water. I'm constantly walking in that canyon but I have to stop whenever I come across one of the trees that the roots come out of the walls of the canyon. I try to just walk underneath it but I always stop myself and back up, saying i cant do it and I start hyperventilating. I can't look at the roots when I do manage to run underneath or I scream in terror. Anyone know what this is called? Cause I've been trying to find out what its called but I can't find anything about it.

Wouldn't the words terror or fear of phobia do to describe this?

If that's the only thing you're phobic about, stay out of the canyon and similar places: if you have lots of other fears maybe it's time for some therapy

It's not always that easy. Some people have no choice but to walk through fossilised mangrove swamps and dried-up river systems. It can be a way to protect oneself from the harsh desert sandstorms.

And you picked that little gem up from playing which computer game?

I can tell you've just watched the Hobbit trilogy movies. Everything in those movies is about real creatures from our past, but the walking trees are much slower than the movie would lead one to believe. I doubt your tree roots could actually grab you unless you were moving in slomo.
However, screaming in panic will do nothing but anger them, so I wouldn't do that any more.

Pretend they are the trunks of elephants, marking checkpoints in your bizarre fantasy world.

Paint the roots with red and white stripes like barber poles. Then pretend you are just going for a hair cut.
You may also gain a raport with some of the roots while you're painting them, that may develop into mutual respect or even friendship. If any of the bad roots try to scare you, the friendly roots will come to your aid.
    It's only logical.
