Is it normal that i'm afraid to skydive

Everytime I miss a chance to go skydiving, due to work or other plans or the weather, I regret it and beat myself up for it but now that I have the chance to go this weekend I feel scared that I might chicken out. I'm not afraid of heights when I feel secured and locked in like roller coasters and planes but this time I'm planning to jump off a plane for the first time and I'm scared that I'll embarrass myself by hyperventilating and backing out.
By the way, aside from a friend that's going to drive me there I'm basically going with just myself and the instructors and other random people. I think I'll be fine and it's mostly safe but it's easy to say now!

Hurtling towards the earth at terminal velocity, perhaps falling to your imminent death, putting your life in the hands of the possible meth addict that works nights sewing together parachute fabric...why would you be scared!? Gosh, people are such pussies sometimes.

That's normal. In fact, that's probably the biggest reason people skydive besides the free floating freedom of it all.

If it wasn't scary, people wouldn't do it.

Only a fucking idiot would willingly jump out of a perfectly good airplane, that wasn't crashing!
