Is it normal that i'm not religious but get annoyed by atheists?

Every time I hear people talk about how bad religion is, I get pissed off because most my friends and family are religious, and they're all very nice and tolerant and stuff. I just don't see why some people care so much about convincing others that there aren't any gods.

Atheists, theists, they are both annoying as hell when they are getting self-righteous (or "enlightened", whatever the hell you wish to call it) and drone on about how much Group A or Group B sucks, or feel the need to push their beliefs on others by feeling the need to constantly attack other institutions.

Personally, it annoys the living hell out of me when atheists constantly talk about how stupid and unenlightened religious people are. I have seen both sides of the argument and I chose my side. I wasn't raised anywhere near the church. I found it on my own, I enjoy it, I don't push my beliefs on others and I live my life. And I am sure many atheists have been bad-mouthed by stupid religious folk that think that being a jerk to someone is a great conversion method, I know I was when I was an atheist.

Most of my friends are atheists. And we are cool. But there is always one prickly one, religious or atheist, that feels the need to use their beliefs as a soap box to preach off of.

I agree with this person it is annoying when one group does not believe in another but than seperates themselves so they can say they are better and attack that group. Just becuase you do not believe in religion does not mean all religous poeple are automaticly stupid or wrong .

    That's normal.

No one likes someone who tries to force their beliefs (or non-belief) down someone else's throat.

Yes, it's normal. Atheists imposing themselves on people are just as bad as religious people doing so. I've seen more self-righteous atheists than self-righteous theists, but I know that not all atheists are bad- just like not all theists are bad.

For every 1 athiest actually bad-mouthing God/religion, there are several who don't say anything about the subject. The same statistic applies with religious types bad-mouthing athiests.
Just as many religious people bad-mouth athiests as vice versa.

Yes, it is normal to be annoyed. You should be annoyed with the other side of the argument too, though, so not to be prejudice.

I hate it when some atheists I know act all superior because they're "above the influence of being religious". Their words, not mine.

Because unfortunately many atheists feel more self righteous than a vegan at the family thanksgiving dinner. They will jump out of their skin and foam their mouths in every possible attempt to spread their "non-religious" religion and bash everything else in process.

I like to keep my religious and spiritual views to myself, because i find it a private practice. But people like that really piss me off.

I'm not a fan of ANYONE on either side saying for sure that there is or isn't a god, and that anyone on the opposing side is stupid for believing/not believing. I'm a big proponent of everyone finding their own path. I kind of take it a bit personally when people say how evil religion is and all that (granted I used to be like that, myself). My mom is a Christian, she goes to church, sings in the choir, etc etc. But you would never know she was if you talked to her on the street. But it's been a HUGE part of her life, and her faith actually helped her quit drinking. She never pushes her Christianity on others, and rarely even talks about it unless it's brought up by someone else...so it's a teeny tiny bit hurtful when the more high-and-mighty atheists say that no good thing can come from religion. So, yeah, my point is, I think everyone has to find their own path and their own belief/non-belief that helps them personally. They have no business trying to make up the minds of everyone else (and I'm talking of BOTH sides).

I'm agnostic, but I cannot STAND when people are intolerant of other religions.

I feel the same way. I'm Christian, but I have many friends that are atheists and agnostic and it doesn't bother me. It's not all atheist, it's just the ones that are out to make it seem like all Christians are bad, when a majority of us are accepting and caring. I know there are some Christian people who are judgemental, but those people don't seem to comprehend the fact that it's a sin to judge. It just bothers me that some ahteist people complain about how all Christians and religious people are judgemental, when in turn, they themselves are judging.

WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST LIVE WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT EACH OTHERS BELIEFS?!

People tend to speak in very general terms and online it is even worse.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • They're not bashing the believers, they're bashing the religion. Some bash the believers, but most bash the religion, or maybe most don't even do that, just explain why atheism has more standing? Who knows.

I'm an agnostic atheist, a secularist and a humanist. The reason I speak up against religion is because it belittles science and human rights.

I have no problems with people believing in god(s), or subscribing to certain faiths. I have a problem with these faiths being used to justify actions/passing of laws, and completely going against empirical evidence.

My objective would be to achieve secularism, not to completely destroy religion.

Many people that claim to be Atheists are actually Satanists that are trying to convince Christians that "there is no God" since for Christians, refusing to believe and following the wrong belief have the same outcome.
They're just trying to get Christians off Christianity and being assholes about it too.

      • Satanists actually have a very complex and strict set of ideals, nothing like Atheists whatsoever.

Im no satanist, but i respect LaVeyan Satanism very much.

1.Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.
2.Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.
3.When in another’s home, show them respect or else do not go there.
4.If a guest in your home annoys you, treat them cruelly and without mercy.
5.Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.
6.Do not take that which does not belong to you, unless it is a burden to the other person and they cry out to be relieved.
7.Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.
8.Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.
        9.Do not harm young children.
10.Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.
11.When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask them to stop. If they do not stop, destroy them.

Lol ever notice five years ago no one even knew what an Atheist was, it's just a bullshit fad now.

You do have a right (in some countries) to say what you think. My intention is not to create further division amongst us, but for persons to realize the root causes that does cause division in society.

In my country I do. I stated a fact about Levain Satanism. If a fact is a division... that is not my fault. If I say it is 78 degrees outside (and that is the right temp.) and you think that is causing divisions because some people think (or want it to be) 77 degrees, that is your problem not mine. So please explain how a fact is creating divisions in society? I am calling you on your stupid bullshit this time, you have posted that same reply to many others. I only stated a fact. I gave no opinion on the matter. So what social division am I creating?
