Is it normal that i'm positive most people can hear me swallow?

Does anyone else have to manually swallow saliva everytime the simple thought of it crosses your mind? It seems to noticeably accumulate when I think about it and am forced to swallow. And don't say "just don't think about it," cause it's not that easy when you're paranoid. This sounds so weird, but some people seem to react when I swallow, such as deliberately making a salivia kind of noise upon hearing me swallow?

I am too embarrassed to tell you what came into my head when I read "I'm positive most people can HEAR me swallow".

Damn you now I'm consciously producing saliva and have to swallow it.

Your mouth is always producing saliva. Your mouth is suppose to be moist. Some people produce an excess of saliva and its a health condition. Everyone swallows some amount of saliva. It is not something you can help. Saliva is what helps break down your food when you eat.

I'm the same way. If I'm eating over a friend's house I get self conscious when I need to swallow my food or drink.

It's the same with anything. It's like telling you not to think about a blue elephant. What's the first thing that crosses your mind? A blue elephant. If you think about blinking your eyes, you'll blink even if you don't have to.

I asked my dad this question when I was about ten and he said that no, people don't swallow at all apart from when they are eating. I think I've actually been afraid to ask anyone since because it made me feel like a freak.

At least there's two of us now. :)
