Always normal to be scared when something unexpected is diagnosed, but you need to realise there's no connection between fibroids and the pap smear test, which is to check for cervical cancer cells.

How was the fibroid discovered? If it's not causing any problem, for example heavy bleeding, and it's not cancerous there's nothjing to worry about.

Take care and try not to worry for the next week until you get the test results and good luck!

The fibroid was discovered with an ultrasound.I don't have any pain or bleedings but the gynecologist told me that i will have miscarriage if i want a baby.

You must've had some symptoms to warrant the ultrasound being done? I'm assuming you'll be having regular checks to see if it's getting larger

No symptoms at all.He told me every six months to have an ultrasound. He also told me that if i'm lucky it may shrink.

I'm still puzzled: why would a doctor recommend regular ultrasounds unless there had been symptoms to indicate the need?

They can shrink, they can also grow: someone close to me recently had one removed which about the size of a coconut and would you believe the surgeon photographed it on his phone and texted it to her!!!! She'd had very heavy periods for years previously and bc of the size they had to remove her uterus too - fortunately not her ovaries or she wuold've gone into premature menopause

You know what pisses me off? How so many women's medical issues are ignored for years when they could just be death with straight away. I swear if men had coconut sized things growing in their balls they wouldn't tell them to " just wait band see if it shrinks". Sorry off topic but I hate how women are expected to put up with medical issues mostly because something is considered ' not that necessary".

Actually i'm not afraid of the fibroid since it's not cancerous but i'm scared of the pap test results.

Having fibroids doesn't increase your chances of cervical cancer just so you know.so I doubt you have anything to worry. Good luck!

Ma'am, it is perfectly normal to experience fear about these issues, especially with so much news about cancer, but there is nothing to worry about, your doctor is a specialist and she knows what she is doing. Don't feel alone either, anywhere from 20-80% of women develop uterine fibroids before they reach 50, and they are almost always benign (non cancerous). In very rare cases they can be related to cancer. If the Pap smear results scare you, its healthy for you to talk about it with other women or your friends

My ex had 3. They did something called a ablation that got rid of them. It also stopped her periods. This didn't require surgery. She always said that she was really happy she got it done.

The gynecologist told me about laparoscopic surgery or c section surgery.i don't know what ablation is.

Ablation means they laser or cut out the fibroids or the uterus lining.

An ablation doesn't use any cutting or lasers. They use a form of ultrasound to break them down then the rest of what I said to finish the process. Its a vaginal procedure requiring no cutting at all . You will be put under and there is pain after you awake. But its a outpatient thing.

"Different procedures have been used and are all similarly effective for destroying the uterine lining tissue. These include laser beam, electricity, freezing, and heating."

Also, this is considered a surgical procedure, regardless of whether cutting is involved or not.

Straight from the Google search results.
Mine is straight from the ob gyn who did the procedure.
I repeat. They did not use lasers or cut anything.

Did you even read? At no point did I correct what you said about your wife's procedure. I added extra detail so that the OP has a complete picture. I said there are several options and I didn't say they did cut anything. So get off your fucking high horse.

If she's had no periods since does that mean that she coincidentally went into memopause or did they remove the entire uterus? Just asking ...

Its not a hysterectomy. She kept everything. What the ablation does is cauterize all the blood vessels on the uterine wall which stops the cycle. At times she would still get a mild cramp or 2. She already had a tubal so it's not a issue there. But if you want children I don't think you can get it done. But as for menopause that didn't start for about 8 years later. She was 36 when she got it and started getting the symptoms of menopause at around 42 or so.. hot flashes and night sweating, etc.
