Is it normal that I am so freaked out and scared that a burglar with a gun will break in my house at night, and either hurt or kidnap me? Please, is this normal??

Maybe you don't feel as though you have adequate security.

I don't know if this is any use to you but... I have plain glass doors at the front and the back of my house, so it is very obvious that I'm in or out. I bought some reflective film off ebay that no-one can really see through - they see themselves as in a mirror. It's just like tinted glass in a car so I can still see out. I put this on the glass and feel 100 times safer. You could do this on bedroom / hall windows or any window you feel is overlooked.

The only burglar that will come in at night is the Hamburglar.

Keep a bat or something next to your bed. Makes you feel more secure.

unless the intruder has a gun. bats don't have good range unless you throw them. and flying bats are not known for accuracy...

Chances of a person with ill intent breaking into her home are slim. While still possible, it's very uncommon (also depending on her neighborhood). My point is that with a bat, at least she will get a little peace of mind.

          You never really know...

I mean a bat's not bad but... I prefer my revolver. It has a longer range than a bat, and has stopping power.

the bat may work if you could sneak up on the bad guy and he or she doesn't wrestle it away from you. but if that happens then the bad guy is in your house and has your bat.

as for peace of mind... eh. to me it's a bit like having a security blanket. it just makes you feel safe without actually doing anything effective for your safety

Get a gun! Keep it loaded, but take the pin out so no one can use it against you. When the time is right, put the firing pin back in.

I would say yes. I also have this fear, every night I think about it and I've even planned an escape out of my bedroom window just incase. That's how sad I am. V.V

If some scumbag enters your home...shoot em....Let every other dirtbag know that if you enter this house alive you will not leave alive.

forget a bat, keep a nail gun beside your bed.

even better if you know anyone that is good with machines you could pay them to modify it so it's fully automatic >:D

Lots of people are paranoid about this (my father included) it's relatively normal. However depending on where you live it's quite unlikely that it will ever happen (just make sure you lock your door and have a burglar alarm at night).

When I lived with someone, I was a bit wary about sleeping in the house alone. Now I live alone, I don't even notice it (despite living in quite a high-crime area). I guess you just get used to whatever your situation is. If I slept in a tiny village in the country, I'd be more scared even though there's less to be scared of.

Yep, I've had this fear for most of my life. The more you expose yourself to being alone in the house though the braver you will become. Getting a security alarm may make you feel safer.

Buy a gun, ammo, and good locks. Consider getting your door reinforced with metal.

i mean if they're going to come in with guns to attack you, then you have every legal right to defend yourself against them.

If you're new, i recommend a revolver. it's pretty reliable and packs a good punch
