If it makes you feel better, I'm a guy and my fear of the dark didn't completely vanish until I was like... ~25? It was fascinating because in the space of a few weeks I suddenly transitioned from "being alone in the woods at night and anxiously looking back/around every 10 seconds" to "feeling calm and at peace in the same place under the same conditions." and it's stayed that way since.
I can understand being afraid of the dark at any age.
I can't sleep in the dark I'm claustrophobic. It feels like something is going to hit me in the face when I can't see.
People are afraid of things they aren't acknowledged of. Don't mind my weird English. Please.

I have a crazy active imagination and horror movies scarred me as a child. It wasn't until after I went down to my basement which isn't even finished, shut the door, and turned the lights off that I could get over it.
Nothing will happen. But the only way to overcome fear is to face it head on.
