Probably a common one as I'm a virgin, but I've tried to use tampons before and just chickened out, as trying to get it in was very uncomfortable. I'm just getting a little sick of using sanitary towels, as I feel dirty when I do this, and have to change it very frequently.

You can also lube the tip of the applicator with some lube that people use for sexual purposes to make insertion of the tampon easier. Make sure it doesn't say for external use only.
It's completely normal - I was scared at first. But that fear is irrational. There's nothing to be scared of. If you want to use them just relax and do it. Once you get used to them you'll be fine.
I was scared when I started using them because I thought it would hurt. You just need to do it cos they are so much better and feel more hygienic. They're really not that bad at all.
When I was 15 I hated the pads because they were so messy and smelly. But I nearly fainted the first time I tried to put it with one leg up like the instructions say because I was so anxious. I would suggest doing it when your flow is REALLY strong and the blood could act as a lubricant, even though it sounds weird.
Just like anything else that gives u anxiety, but needs done, Just stick it in gently, push the thing in, and pull out the applicator, and job done!
I was the exact same! After I got used to them I loved them! It feels sooooo much cleaner
Tampons are so much easier, and I agree, they just feel cleaner to me. I was nervous too but then just kind of did it and bam! Awesomeness. Its not like you feel them or anything, if you do it right. Buy the nice ones, not the cheapy cardboard ones if its your first time. You'll figure it out. I have faith in you :)
I was also scared, but you really don't have to be scared at all because you're a virgin. I used tampons when I was a virgin and I still use them now that I'm not and I don't think I feel any difference.
It took me a while to learn how to use them, at first It wouldn't go in and I would freak out and get dizzy. I think you just have to be relaxed and think everybody can do it. Stand up when you insert it and watch videos if you dont know how to put it in, they will tell you which direction you have to push or whatever.
ANd yes, pads suck. They are dirty. When I used my first tampon I was thinking why didnt i try before? pads are terrible and dirty! this is amazing. and talk about summer and going to the pool. amazing :D

I used to be scared too, it kinda hurt the first time I used one but now I'm so glad I use tampons instead of pads. Pads felt like diapers. But if you don't want to use a tampon or a pad you could use a menstrual cup.
i was too. but finally did, for the same reason you're saying- using pads felt gross to me. if you get the right size of tampon it shouldn't be a problem at all. they also come with instructions (which might seem dumb but i read them all just to be sure, and i didn't know there is a certain angle to put them in- all explained there). start with the smallest or at least regular. i think i was about 20 when i first used them.. because i was living at the beach and got tired of my "fear".
i didnt like them at first but i tryed the tampon then the pad. i chose the pad to keep wearing them...

When you say sanitary towels do you mean a pad? Well I heard of women getting it stuck in them. Apparently if it gets stuck you go into shock and you have to go to the doctor to get it out.
