Is it normal that i'm the only pet lover in the family?

I've been a pet lover all my life, but my parents hate any kinds of animal. Both of my parents are doctors and they always talk about how filthy and unhygienic it is to have a pet in the house. And none of my relatives have pets, except one uncle who owns a fish pond and a cat. The only pet I have as a child are fish or small pets that can be kept away in a cage. I'm not living with them anymore and I live with housemates who are pet lovers and we have ferrets and we rescue abondoned cats. My parents are always complaining about it.

One event that got me on my nerves was on my nephews birthday, I took him to a petstore. We were just window shopping since my sister don't want his kid to own a pet. But my nephew insist on wanting a hamster and got upset. My parents blame me for it and literally call me crazy and immature to go to petstore at my age. The way they said it was really serious and angsty.

After that inncident I don't know what to think of them and why they just don't respect any of my interest and look at me like so digusted. Most of my friends that are pet lovers have a nice family who also are pet lovers, and I feel good hanging around them. I just can't believe my parents won't at least tolerate me and accept me as I am.
