I am not very good at school, but i have an IQ of 122. Is it normal?
I scored 32 on the ACT. I'm not going to post my IQ.
I had a D average in high school, and made four failed attempts at college.
High school was a social event for me.
My first attempt at secondary education was in art school. I was ostracized by the rest of the class because I couldn't stand listening to Wham and Culture Club...and I chewed tobacco.
My second attempt was a party...like high school, but with adult freedom.
My third attempt was at a trade school in the profession I still work in...I got a job in it so I dropped.
My fourth attempt I was in my upper 20s, and took it seriously. Majored in psychology. I was an Honor Student. My wife got pregnant, so I had to focus on work...with a mouth to feed, and responsibility becoming a priority, I had to work overtime to make ends meet. I'm still there. 26 years later.
My dad was a college professor with a PHD in Zoology, my mom was a teacher with a Masters in Childhood Development. My oldest brother made "Who's Who of American Universities," and my other brother was a Merit Finalist. I fix semi trucks...but I'm really good at it.. hahaha
Obviously, with an IQ of 122, you're quite bright. Find your niche and be the best at it.
...and yes, you're normal.
Sure, one of my friends is the same way. While it is unusual, it does happen! There arn't a whole lot of examples or detail here so I guess I will leave it at that :P
Iq = intelligence (innate) while school is more about knowledge ie. memorization of facts.. People get these mixed up a lot. Just because someone's good at school doesn't necessarily make them intelligent, it makes them knowledgeable with a good memory/absorption of facts, whereas genuinely intelligent people tend to come up with things on their own, with less instruction
I have the same IQ result as you (122) and I did awful in school. I finally graduated at age 22.
Good luck.
IQ is one measure of "intelligence", schoolwork is another. Although some of the 'skills' (for lack of a better word) you have may ensure a high score in one, it may not be particularly helpful to the other. For example, having the ability to solve a visual puzzle, in an IQ test, in 2 seconds, doesn't necessarily mean you could pen a wonderful essay for an English class.
Also, it's worth noting that an IQ test is more of a measure of how easily you can pick up and apply knowledge, rather than how much knowledge you have accumulated (which is typical of a lot of school exams).
So, don't beat yourself up over it!
Dude, you're 2 points above average, nothing to write home about and hardly "very smart". You are just like most of the rest of us;
70-100 = below average
100-120 = average
120-140 = above average
140-160 = highly inteligent
>160 = genius
The IQ scale is distributed so that 100 is always the average score. That means, he is 22 points above the average, which is a considerable score that maybe less than 10% of people reach.
100 is certainly NOT average in the scale I attached; the first one after a search online.
If these things are that flexible in results and scoring, then what use are they?
I've found;
Stupid people can do well in school; they work very hard
Smart people can do well; usually without working hard
Really smart people usually do poorly; they're bored out of their skulls, most of the time.
You didn't get me: The IQ tests you find online are NOT using the actual averaged IQ scale, so their results are not necessarily reliable. If you want to have a reliable value, you usually have to do 2-3 scientifically approved tests.
Their use is to determine your intelligence relative to the current average (which can in fact change, but is always defined as the value '100')
You know that the iq scores have a normal distribution right?
So, actually, 100 would be the average.
Skill at school is all about application and interest. It's an unfortunate hurdle most people have to jump to get a career. It's a useful thing to have on your resume though so try to apply yourself. If you revise what you've learned you'll absorb more of it and go better. It's not too hard and there are a world of benefits. Don't look for an excuse as to why you aren't going well, look for a way to go better
According to most of the websites i have read about this on, the average IQ score is 105-110. And there is many different types of IQ tests, but the one that i took hed the average score of 106.
I don't think most schools know how to teach. A lot of them still use simple outdated methods. Giving a student a book and saying read page 1-15 is not going to work with every single student.
i knew so many very smart kids in school with bad grades- our measuring system is all wrong!
School's about swatting, it's not conducive to inventive thought or creative learning.
It okay. I have an I.Q of 175 and I do horrible in school. I just think it's because I'm bullied a lot and my mind just isn't on the school work to be done.
What would you define as bad? I have some friends who will complain about not getting a 95 average and say that they are "failing". I'm not failing right now but I don't do very well in school. Teachers always TELL me I'm really smart, but I don't think so. I can't always get homework done and no matter what it seems I always do something wrong to fuck up my grade. I don't know my IQ though.
I have IQ of 144 even if it sounds retarded cuz I am a fucking dickward, but it is true !
I am not the best, neither am I the worst. I simply enjoy my life and try not to do more than I should. It is ok to suck at school, you have a lot of talent in things you might find interesting. Just keep going and dont worry your little peasant head about it.
sometimes school is waste of time.
drop that find what you are good at and leave the school fuekced up
