Is it normal that i miss my dog so much while away at college?

I have a 4 year old chihuahua, and I'm in my sophomore year at college. I'm close enough to home where I get to go home nearly every weekend. But the weeks seem so long. I miss my dog like crazy. She's like my baby, and pretty much acts like it when I'm home. Is it normal that I miss her so much during the week that it's making me feel very lonely and sad? How can I start to feel better and not think about her? I'm guessing it's not normal to miss a dog so much, but I just can't help it.

I have a 4 year old dog at home too and he is my little buddy that does everything with me from hiking to swimming to hunting to going to the beach to whatever else...i am a sophomore at college too and I cried when I left for school for the first time because I felt so bad leaving him. Dogs are our best friends so it is totally understandable!!!

If you weren't a total loser, you would be making friends at collage instead of pining over a freakin' chihuahua! GET A FREAKIN' LIFE!

If anyone needs to "get a life" it would be the individual on a website where people tend to support each other, who writes so many comments about hating dogs. If you hate dogs, why do you spend your day dwelling on it? Normal people avoid things they dislike. Although, I shouldn't have to defend myself. I have plenty of friends. But unlike "total losers" you can't be with friends ALL the time because some of us want to do well in our classes and graduate with good GPAs and have a comfortable life unlike those who live in shacks in Mexico. So, in your own words..."GET A FREAKIN' LIFE!"

I think it's normal and quite endearing someone would care so much, I'm like that with my pets just leaving turn for 6 hours to go to work!

I missed our dog so much it ruined my honeymoon for 2 weeks :o(

It's the same as home-sickness. You know the humans can look after themselves and understand why you're not there but your wee dog can't :o(

I know! I'm sorry your honeymoon was ruined. :( Luckily, she's loves my dad just as much as me so I know she's well taken care of. But it doesn't make me miss her any less or feel super guilty when I leave monday mornings. She sees me packing and gets all sad, and then follows me to the door and I have to tell her to stay, and when she looks at me like she's gonna cry, my heart just about breaks. :) Oh I couldn't imagine a life without pets. That's probably what gets me most as I've grown up always having pets and my apartment by campus doesn't allow them. It's just not the same. But thank you. :D

You'll find that she will get into the routine, knowing that you will be home on a Friday. My dog sits in the middle of the hall with her head down if I even go out to the local shop and sulks all night with me. They sure are great actors!

Keep some photos in your room of her and try not to picture her on the Monday morning but rather when she sees you on a Friday.

Glad you know she's loved and cared for anyway :o)

OH, someone else is looking after your dog.
    No issue, let it go.
