Is it normal that i only drive 60-65 on interstates?

I have had my drivers liscence a little over two years now. I admit that it did take me two tries. I passed the test my second time. I have seen how many teenage kids drive and it gives me the chills. I play it safe in my mind. When I am on interstate highways, I stay in the far right lane and try not to go faster than 60mph. I completly stop at stop signs. Other kids at my school have asked me why I am such an uncool driver? Is it normal for me to not want to be a speed demon?

What is the speed limit where you're driving? I'm not a driver, but I know that driving too far under the limit can be a hazard, too.

The speed limit is 70mph near me so you better pick up the pace.

Most of the speed limits where I live are 65 anyway. Lots of curves here. So it depends where you live and what the limit is.

I don't like when people make fun of others for driving the speed limit (unless they're driving a car that is intended for speed, of course). Too many people are overly confident in their driving, which is hazardous. Please don't drive fast to be cool.

The right lane is made for people who do the speed limit or a little under. The left lane is for speed demons and people who are passing those in the right lane. Know your place and you will earn respect on the road. Where I live, there are people who will drive 50/60 mph in the fast lane and they are dangerous idiot drivers.

    • I agree with you. I also drive about 60 on interstates. 65 is as fast as the car goes when I am in controll of it.

Do you ever get there or are you still on your way?

    I don't understand it either.
If I exceed the speed limit by 5-10mph on an interstate in America, I'll be the slowest car.
Are most Americans not scared of fines?
I don't want to be giving any of my money to the cops, so I rather play it safe.

Haha well... Luckily I live in Germany and we mostly don't have a speed limit on our interstates... 120mph or ~200km/h
is no problem for us =P The faster the better...

I do this too, for better gas mileage. I drive an SUV and find that driving 65 rather than the posted speed limit of 70 ads a MPG or or two to my gas mileage. Might not seem like much but everything adds up.

Well I don't mind your speeds as long you are not obstructing traffic flow.

About intersections with stop signs, you are meant to come to a complete stop before moving onto the intersection.
