Is it normal that i second guess myself?

I'm a Second Lieutenant in my JROTC program. But eversince i've joined i've second guessed myself and even when I was told i was right, i would do something else or go check again or triple check in fear of embarresing myself in front of everyone. I feel like I never know what i'm talking about or that i'm wrong again, because I fear being embarresed in front of my peers. It's not that i'm a perfectionist, its just I feel like i have to be perfect 24/7. is that normal?

I never second guess myself. Or do I? Wait a minute. Ok, Nevermind. Mmmm.

Well, it's been a while and now i'm a Cadet Major, and the Executive Officer, and half the time I outperform the Batallion Commander, it was something that I was able to grow out of

That's perfectly normal. Clearly you're under a lot of pressure with a lot of people looking on. Perhaps you aren't prepared enough for the job? Seek more informational help and further your training so you feel confident that you're doing the right procedures or whatever. Make it your #1 priority to familiarize yourself with the job to the maximum potential.

But, of course, you will make mistakes, but it's your attitude about HOW you make them that will either make or break you. Don't take anything to heart, it's only a job. Be sincere but not too serious, you know? And don't draw attention to your mistakes and figure out how you can learn more about your position at every opportunity.

I feel ya! I second guess myself a lot.

I've done it with tests a lot. And in one of my classes, the teacher handed it back to me, and we were all gonna correct the test as a class, and the questions I got wrong, I noticed I had either erased or crossed off the right answers beforehand. I had the right answers originally, but because of my worried mind, I was stupid and didn't believe I was right the first time, and as a result that test did not help my average at all! It was a mandatory course in college that I ended up taking over. Ugh! That class sucked!

Just realize that nothing and nobody is perfect anyway, and you won't die if you embarrass yourself even just a little. Trust yourself a little more, and make sure you have enough knowledge of what you're doing to be able to think you're more right than wrong.
