Is it normal that i see things in the dark?

For years, I have suffered with "hallucinations" of things in the dark. Most of the things are terrifying and I know they aren't real but I cannot help myself to feel so scared and run to the nearest light. Just being in a little patch of light surrounded by walls makes me feel safe.

One very unforgettable time was during the summer when I was younger. I was up late, and by late I mean 3-4 in the morning. I heard a noise that sounded like either my brother or mom was awake and in the kitchen. I wasn't supposed to be up so late so I made it look like I was asleep, I turned my back to the door. I heard/felt footsteps coming towards my bed and heard breathing, so I naturally thought it was either my mom or brother coming to check to see if I was awake. After waiting for a moment, I turned around and nothing was there.

The hallucinations are so bad that I can't even be in the dark without seeing something horrifying.

I once saw Katy Perry with an AK-47 in the dark, but I turned on the light and it was just my closet open.

When I go turn out my light I start seeing eyes and teeth in the darkness. even where I know i have a flat ceiling and nothing on it I see eyes and teeth. I have this irrational judgement of people and things based on their eyes. If I can look into their eyes and see kindness I like them. If I look into their eyes and see Violent anger I am afraid of them. If I look into their eyes and see fear I feel bad for them. I am almost always right when I look into someones eyes and tell how they feel. So when I see eyes that want to kill me and I see that the owner of the eyes would enjoy my death I am afraid. Even now I feel like there are ghosts or something watching my screen and now that I have told people about this they will finally finish me off.

Yes your completely normal, I guess no one here has ever experienced hypnagogia, which is what you are experiencing, at least more than likely. It happens to me all the time. I thought I was weird too but then I looked it up one night and was quite relieved to find out it happens to a lot of normal people. Once you learn to tell yourself your in that state you can control it, it's basically like a free psychedelic once you can control it. If you are scared or thinking about something lots of times you will project that while in the hypnagogic state. I'm sure it explains most alien abductions and ghost stories. heres a good link, http://www.theness.com/index.php/hypnagogia-an-explanation-of-strange-nighttime-visitations/

I did that when I used to take cough syrup. I've always wondered why the color red is the most visible color in the dark.

Leave a small lamp on and get an appointment with a doctor. Be careful of anti pyschotic pilks though as they can take away your sex drive.

Sounds paranormal related. I've seen weird things in darkness too and now I sleep in the light. I have no psychiatric illnesses, if it matters.

I used to be like this. As you get older, presuming you aren't old, this fear should get easier. Just think of everything as being the same, just with the sun down. How about playing a little dare game with yourself to see for how long you can stay in the dark?
