Is it normal that i slap myself?

I whail in self pity, and usually it got to the point where I hated myself. I was diagnosed with depression and was put on drugs that basically numbed out my feelings. So I got off them.

The self pity, which I usually over-think, is what I feel is an useless emotion that gets me no where. So I slap myself out of it. I slap myself so I don't get back into the darkness. And this doesn't happen often, just one every 5 - 6 days.

Idk, it's a remedy of mine, it helps me cope and stay sane without freaking out.

well i guess people have their own ways of making themselves feel better, but i think you should try to find a different method before your face swells up too much, or before you knock out a tooth.

    Hello there,

As someone who mildly self-harms in a similar form, I can sympathise.
When I'm hurt, frustrated, sad or just plain angry I tend to punch my right forearm with the side of my left fist.
I used to have a bruise from it; but I managed to hold back. A bit.

I think it's great that you told someone, even online. Getting these things off your chest can be a big relief - especially if you get a little in return...let me see if I can help.

Hitting, cutting, biting, scratching and head-banging are all forms of self-harm. As hurting yourself goes, slapping is pretty mild - but it shouldn't be ignored.
As a child (I probably have Asperger's) I picked the skin of my arms, legs and (possibly) my face, feet and hands. It wasn't something I did for any reason - there were spots all over my body, but I wasn't upset.
But as I got older, things changed. From about age 14, I began thumping my right arm.
This continued into adulthood. I even did it in front of my mum.

Eventually, I learnt more tips and tricks.
Here are some links to help sites, just to give you a push in the right direction.

I'm not sure where you live, but the advice is all worthy.

    Royal College of Pyschiatrists:

    Mind, the mental health organisation:

I hope these help and give some advice!

Good luck, and remember - feel free to ask me any questions!

    Keep me posted, my friend.

    xx
