Is it normal that i sniff plates and mugs before using them

Well, the title says it all but before I eat or drink anything I have to smell the plate, mug or cup that I'm about to use. It's because I don't trust it to be clean once it's been in the cupboard so I smell it and then usually wash it anyway for good measure.

Does anyone else do this?

Btw...I don't smell plates or mugs for other people-only my own.

    I do it impulsively. I used to live in a disgusting house where ppl didn't know how to wash dishes properly. So even tho I'm living in a nice clean house with nice clean dishes I still do it out of habit and impulse

    OH MY GOSH I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE! I do that all the time, plates, cups, bowls, forks, spoons, knives, even plastic and paper silverware. Then again I have severe OCD, but I guess if that's the only weird thing you do, then it's normal. You don't want to eat off something that smells weird.

    I do the same thing because over the past year or so I've noticed cups smelling odd, as well as dishes not getting completely washed in the dishwasher

    I look for stains and smell all dishes before I use them for me or using them for others ONLY BECAUSE MY 8 YEAR OLD DOES DISHES and I only do this at home. (LOL)

    My friend's father used to work in the restaurant business. She always does this same thing. I just laugh and laugh and laugh.

    I do the same thing. I won't use anythang unless it looks and smells totally clean. Haha, we're weird. :)

      I don't know why this has attracted such attention. It's not even anything interesting or weird. I just think I know who the OP is and I think they know what I do with mugs.

          Bah, I feel so guilty now. :P Okay, I pat the drinking end against my chest or stomach a few times so that any dust in the mug gets displaced.

          I bet everyone will be disappointed now. I think everyone wanted it to be perverted.
