Is it normal that i started stuttering when i was a teenager?

I have a stammer but I didn't start until I was a teenager. I think it's weird because most people start when they are children, but I stated later on and I've never really heard of other people doing this.

Are you depressed or experiencing a lot of anxiety? I don't know if this helps but I am 43 now and when I was 39 and going through a period of deep depression my paternal grandmother died and after that I started stuttering and stammering for about six months.

I started when I was in my early 20's, going through a deep period of social anxiety and depression. Sometimes it still comes out if I'm in an uncomfortable social situation, like being around an authority figure. I'm not sure if this is normal, but wanted you to know you are not alone.

As a teenager I'd stutter around adults. In your case, could it be fact that you might not be comfortable around people? Or do you still stutter when you're alone?

I tend to stutter when I get distracted while trying to explain something, or when I lose my train of thought. I don't do it all the time though. Stuttering isn't a normal thing. It should be checked on by a professional medical person.

Speech problems are In caused in the brain; in that area that controls speech. Do you have any other neurological issues?

I was going to ask this as well. I sometimes stutter when I have a migraine.

My sister had the same thing happen to her, but she eventually moved on from stuttering when she got into her 20s.

There are some words or times when she's rushing that she stutters, but that's very rare.

Try thinking about your words before you speak them. Form the sentence in your head, and say every syllable. Sometimes stuttering can result from having too fast of a thought process, leaving your oral systems behind.

Slow down, and think. That's honestly what everyone should be doing.

Isn't "Stutter" a difficult word for one who stutters? For that matter, Why does Lisp have an S in it? How And how hard is it for one with a speech impediment to say "Impediment"? Why is Abbreviation so such a long word itself? Is this a cruel fucking joke?? Shit.

Yes, it is a cruel fucking joke :) I have recently learned this by one of my college professors but there are many causes as to why one might develop stuttering/impediments at a later age. Car accidents, traumatic events/severe life changes, etc...has any of this happened to OP? About a couple years ago, I got in a car accident. My teacher said that things like that can severely damage a persons voice, and the impediment is all that is left or a person can stutter from the traumatic event, etc, etc...
