Is it normal that i stick things in my ears

3 years ago I started the habit of cleaning my ears. I loved the feeling of my ears being clean some days I've dug around that deep in my ear that the cotton top off the atop gets stuck deep in my ears. They sometimes bleed and i get ear infections alot. I have days where i lose my hearing. They just get so itchy I feel the need to poke at them. And it feels so good.
I've used toothpicks, Bobby pins, sticks, insence sticks anything I can fit really..
My favorites are Bobby pins it feels so good and gives me eargasms. and I know I have an addiction, am I normal or anyone else do this?

It would be normal if you didnt hurt yourself. A lot of people like the feeling of things in their ears but making yourself bloody and causing harm isn't normal. I used to put my hair in my ears then pull t out when I was younger but I never had any medical issues.

This isn't normal, and is harmful behaviour. You should speak to a therapist about this habit.

So, it is now 2022, and me too with the eargasms and I am 73, female and hair long enough to dampen a few strands of hair and go for it. Doing this for so long, I cannot remember. No one knows but me.

I am having some hearing loss and have wondered if this habit has damaged my eardrum? I have had hearing tests and told hearing aids would be helpful but have not taken the step yet. The noise is loud when you touch the eardrum. I wanted to know if anyone else has had a Dr. opinion on this habit and any long term results. And yes, there should be a study with this group of folks. Thanks.

Itching and knowing it's clean does feel good, and, I'm guilty of that, myself. Think most people are. Have used q-tips, paper matchsticks, and things like that, and, on rare occasion (like summertime, when I'm outside and a gnat or something flies into my ear), something harder, like wooden match, pen top, or metal nail, but, never made myself bleed. Ringing or some soreness, but never bleed.

Try using softer or less sharp things to satisfy an itch. I did have one occasion where, taking care of an inner ear itch, used a chop stick, and, while it felt great, my arm slipped and really jabbed it in. No blood, but it did hurt.

If you look at the thread on people who put hair in their ears, your habit is similar to theirs. It's a kind of self stimulatory behaviour. However what you are doing sounds more damaging. When I was a child my mother caught me pushing my hair into my ears and she cut my hair off, so I started doing what you do, putting other things in my ears just for the sensation. Sometimes I hurt myself and felt scared, but after the pain went, I'd do it again. It's an addictive habit for sure. Later when my hair grew back, I returned to using hair. You need to try and stop putting sharp stuff in there (if you haven't already) I heard of a woman who ended up with ear cancer after a lifetime of poking sharp objects in her ear canal. Not meaning to scare you but surely there are softer things that could be used.

Toothpicks? I am pretty sure that is not a good idea at all. And no, it is not normal at all to lose your hearing some days from sticking things in your ears.
