Is it normal that i still use floppy disks?

I use floppy disks on my old machine that still runs on Windows 2000 ( Yes I know it has been out of support since 2010 ), but I use it to run DOS games on it and I use it for old crap since there's not much I can do with old machines anyways. People might think I'm weird but using it makes me feel old, it has already made me a lot older while using Windows 2000 again as it is my childhood operating system ( XP, Vista were also my childhood ones but this is off topic ).

However the one thing I don't use floppy disks for is using them to install an operating system, using it takes long and usually does not serve any purpose. I still have a bunch of blank ones in the attic that I could use to put games in.

So is the whole description normal or not normal?

Sure, why not? Joe Biden says to make sure you have the record player on at night for the children. Actually, it's good for children to listen to classical music, particularly Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart!

I was wondering if anyone still used floppy disks just the other day. I’m a bit surprised someone born in 2002 ever used them, my school scrapped them in 2005.

I still use an iPod that I uploaded my CD collection onto, accompanied by a few songs courtesy of YouTube to mp4 converter, so you’re not alone in liking 2000s technology.

Its because I also used to watch my parents insert that little thing in to store files when I was little.

Most of them in my house have been thrown away because my parents didn't really need them anymore ( I think it was also due to the fact that they knew CDs and DVDs would take over floppy disks )so therefore I just use the remaining ones that I find in my attic.

I think it's cool. Floppies were super slow but super convenient. Impossible to find a computer that comes with one built-in these days.

The first documents I wrote digitally were on floppy discs in Wordstar.
    Yes I know, I'm old.

I dont expect or encourage people to run out and buy the newest tech every year, but floppy disks are so obsolete, hell CD’s and DVD’s are obsolete. Even HDD’s are almost obsolete.

Then again, if you are content with still using floppy disks and dont plan to share data during work and such via floppy disks, I see no harm.

Of course it's normal to use floppy disks on an old computer that uses floppy disks. Is it normal to play records on a record player? haha. I love using old tech, we have to keep the retro stuff alive.

And if you connect it to the Internet, it will be infected with at least one computer virus in less than a second.

To be fair I have used cassette tapes before I guess I'm also considered a real cool kid, I guess.

Not normal but probably safer and more secure to keep your stuff that way but the computer itself could be more susceptible if you use internet at all.

Like I said I only use it for old things.

On the plus side I also play old CD games on my old machine such as LEGO Island.

Old games are cool but what about just getting an emulator? Or does that ruin the nostalgia?

I can technically run some of them but some of the games if running on a VM ( Virtual Machine ) may not work and thus giving errors, it might mean that I don't have the right drivers or right specs.

For e.g if I run Bad Street Brawlers on Windows 98 on a VM it gives me an error.

Ah I see. What games even fit on a floppy disk? I mean Pac man is less than a google word essay in space.

I knew what a floppy disk was as a kid despite never using one (idk how it's a hard concept for kids today to grasp)

  • Use dosbox on a modern OS instead, floppy disks are very unreliable.

I would but for some reason I can't run DOS stuff on my new machine, when I run DOSBox.

I'll probably try running it on my laptop.
