Is it normal that i still use windows xp?

I used XP, SP2 for a long time. I upgraded to 7 in 2010, but thought it was garbage (those aero windows features were pointless and made my pc slow (specially the games), even 0n 4GB memory). My heart was still with XP, and so I reverted to XP, but this time SP3. So now I still use XP!

I miss XP. My new laptop has Windows 7 and sadly, I am not good enough with computers to be able to switch the OS out.

It was so much easier to run XP. I could often manually fight viruses that attacked my computer and I rarely got viruses. Viruses are typically made to target newer Operating Systems, so having an older OS and a good virus control program was all I ever needed. With this computer, I have two virus control programs, good virus control programs, and I STILL have the occasional shit going through the net and with 7, I can't really do much but keep running sweeps and try to find the program.

I liked XP's basic layout. I like Windows 7 and the little bells and whistles, but XP was the most reliable, in my opinion. I didn't need all of the extra crap.

I like Windows 7, but XP is just as good. Vista spent too much time trying to protect your comuputer from you instead of actually functioning.

The machine I'm typing this on runs XP. It runs like the wind and I'll be sad when I have to upgrade (which is going to be soon, I guess). I'm pretty sure I'm going to have a virtual machine running XP, though, and I'll still be using XP for a long time to come.

I might even go for Windows Server because nothing is going to persuade me to use 8. I hate what Microsoft have done to their operating systems. Although I understand why.

    • I agree completely! The new Microsoft Windows Vista, 7 and 8 are trash. If the day when I have to upgrade does come, I will go for Mac. But I will never forget Windows XP, which truly does run like the wind and hope to be using it longer.

I have Vista on the lappy and I really don't like it but I use 7 at work (with an XP virtual machine) and I would say 7 is the least unpalatable of these new offerings. Microsoft alternate good and bad operating systems. Essentially they push too far with bad ideas, everyone hates it, and then in the next OS, they do what people want. Windows 9 might be okayish.

I wish they'd make a Windows that is modern, secure, supported but has a button that makes it look and work exactly like XP, though.

Used between 2002-2014, then moved on as life goes on....

I used Windows XP, until 2011, and then moved to Windows 7. I really enjoyed using XP too, but unlike you I find 7 to be the perfect successor!

I have two desktops. The first one I've had for years runs on Vista. The second one was brought recently and runs on Windows 8. The second one is a frustratingly confusing piece of shit. After about a few weeks (maybe, 2 or 3) I unplugged it and hooked up my stylish Vista and it's still merrily chugging along.

Windows 7 is actually very good IMO and if aero is sluggish then maybe your graphics card is not recent/powerful enough. Aero can be disabled as well.

XP was a brilliant system. Still is. I do enjoy Windows7, but the new Windows8 sucks more ass than Windows Vista (And that's no small feat I assure you!)

I preferred Vista to XP. Then, I went off on Windows after two fateful incidents where the computer malfunction and erased what I had been typing.

To me, upgrading from XP would inevitably mean getting a new computer, which is not in my plans right now, so... XP it is.

Normal sure, wise hell no. I work at a computer repair facility, we deal a lot with viruses. XP has horrible security flaws even if your using AV like Norton or Kaspersky. My honest advice would be make the upgrade to 7 or 8. Your probably way out of date on your hardware as well if your using hardware that originally came out when XP was current. Hit up a retail store get yourself a processor that starts with an "i5" and ends with "quad core", 6-8 gigabytes of ram is reasonable. This can be accomplished for under $500. And be advised your going to need a new one in 4 years at the very latest.

Well, you have to be aware that upgrading actually does you good and prevents you from Internet risks. My major question is how does your computer manage to run correctly and do the things that you normally do every day. Windows XP seems so ancient to me.
