Is it normal that i talk to myself a lot?

So, before the story, I'm not a loner, in fact I have a fair amount of friends, and I'm not the type of guy that goes to big parties and stuff, but I very much enjoy meetings with friends, like barbecues and so. (Just so you can understand better my situation)

But, when I'm alone, at home for exemple, I tend to talk to myself a lot. I don't create another "character" of myself, but I ask and answer questions like there were 2 Me's, lol. It's usually just in my head, but when there's just me at home I sometimes talk out loud...Is that normal?

I do the same. The way I see it, everyone thinks to themselves in their head, so all I'm doing is vocalizing my thoughts. Doesn't hurt anyone and I know I'm sane so I don't see the problem.

    • Yeah, that's right! But what worries me is the quantity of those inner conversations, like when should I worry about them, you know? :T

Ya I know what you mean. I guess when people start giving you pamphlets to a mental hospital that you start worrying.

However, if you have the tape recorder in your head replaying the same old distressing loop, go on antidepressants. They worked for me.

I do it when I'm emotionally agitated. If I'm walking down the street, people in the cars driving by will heckle me. Last night a guy walking past me gave me the weirdest look because I was listening to my iPod and talking to myself unusually loudly as I couldn't hear myself.

depends on what you think about if the thoughts are harm ful or inappropriate then its not normal. maybe you are depressed i do alot of thinking when i am. i could also be normal . if you think it doesnot change your personality negativly then its ok

How can you grow if you can't weigh opinions and think things through on your own. I'd say it's a good thing. As long as it's healthy thoughts and you're not planning to kill your neighbor or anything than I think it's normal.

Yeah I actually do it more when I hang around people cause I get use to voiceing these things.. lol. So I'd say it's pretty normal.

    • Yeah, I do that too! But sometimes it goes: "Damn, why the hell would you do that, you dumbass?!" and I soon answer "I had no choice for God's sake!" and stuff like that...

You should reward yourself when you do something right too. No need to be so negative to yourself.

A little birdy told me this.

I work graveyard shifts and I often find myself talking yo myself but I don't realize it until I see someone walking toward or near me and I think "they must think I am fucking nuts" when in reality, not seeing or having any interaction with anybody for 8 hours is just odd for me and I start entertaining myself with my thoughts.

    • Yeah, it's your way dealing with the situation. If I worked on graveyard shifts I would talk to myself ALL the time because my inner conversations enhance when I'm at dark or creepy places...

Like when I gotta pass bt the corridor at night I go "Let's just go get that cup of water" - "Yeah, I won't be able to sleep while thirsty" - "Sure, there's nothing to scare me while herem just chill". Damn, is that too much, lol?
