Is it normal that i tap, fidget, and flap my hands?

I've been doing this since I was young.

When I am not doing anything with my hands, I tap, fidget, and flap my hands. I would describe it as almost a strong urge. I tap writing utensils against myself/books during class or at work...tap my hands against desks...when I am alone getting dressed or in the shower, I'll start flapping my hands, or start tapping them against my legs. I don't really know how to describe it past that.

Some autistic people are known to do this.

I flap my hands when I get excited. It's a trait I picked up from my older sister and it sometimes comes as a strong urge so I know what you're talking about. I think you're fine and that it's just a quirk you have.

I flap my arms like wings. There not long enough though apparently. I tried to fly by flapping my arms and crashed like handi-man...
    Up up and away.. ***CRASH***

Not sure what you mean by 'flapping' but I think that sounds like a 'tick' Ticks are basically an urge to do something like flick your hand or shack your head or really any physical action many times. It is technically voluntary but the urge to do it becomes greater the more you don't do it until you just have to do it. (Must like not scratching an itch) If this sounds similar to when you flap your hands then I'd recommend looking into ticks.

  • People do it. Just don't be a pest about it, eh. Like clicking or tapping your pen during a class when others are trying to listen to the instructor lecturing - it tends to cause murderous feelings in others.

    Fidgeting is normal though.
Personally, I LOVE wagging my feet. And, after writing this, I took a three-minute pause just to give them a thorough wagging. Thanks for the reminder. :D

I'm not sure what you mean by flapping, but I am fidgety. I usually like to have something in my hands. Like a little piece of paper to fiddle around with. Or a pen. Although, when I have a pen, I always leave with little ink dots on my fingers where I've been pressing it. I do like to be doing something with my hands.
