Is it normal that i think christianity is alienated from the bible?
- The ignorance of God's name, "Jehovah" (tetragrammaton YHWH). This name appears over 7,000 times in the scriptures, but most modern translations have edited it out and replaced it with LORD (all caps) or similar titles.
- The use of the cross, images of Mary, and other idols are unlawful (Leviticus 26:1, 2Corinthians 6:16). Neither the word "stauros" nor "xylon" can rightfully be translated "Cross". The image comes from ancient Pagan religions.
- The veneration of Mary and the Apostles was not practiced by first century Christians and has no scriptural basis. There is no basis in the scriptures for praying to Mary or the apostles.
- The idea that there is a "soul": that survives death is unscriptural. (Ecclesiastes 9:5, Genesis 1:20, Ezekiel 18:4) A "soul" (ne'phesh) is simply a living thing. Animals are souls. Humans are never described in the Bible as having some kind of supernatural spirit.
- The existence of Hell is unscriptural. The words that were translated into "Hell" consist of "Sheol", which simply means the state of being dead, "Gehenna", which was a burning trash pit outside of Jerusalem where DEAD criminals, animals, and debris were thrown (dead things do not feel pain), "Hades", which is the closest Greek translation of "sheol", and "Tartarus", (not the same tartarus as in Greek mythology) which is a prisonlike condition that disobedient angels are subjected to. None of these terms describes the modern concept of Hell in any way. Hell is an ancient pagan idea.
- The gospels make it clear that Jesus and God are two distinct individuals (John 17:3, John 20:17, John 20:31, John 1:18, John 10:36, I could go on and on). The trinity doctrine has no support in the scriptures and stems from ancient pagan religions.
These are just a few examples; I didn't want this to be too long. Have any other Christians undertaken a thorough study of the Bible and come to realize how corrupted Christianity is today?
