Is it normal that i think renting books from libraries can be gross?

Don't get me wrong-- I love the economy of libraries and being able to rent out books. But I HATE, more than anything, renting a book where I can just feel the dirty, oily, disgusting, hand prints all over the book from the people prior to me renting. I also hate seeing blood, dirt, or marks in books. I wish librarians would wipe down books with those germ killing wipes after books are returned. I own all of the Harry Potters except for the fourth, and decided to order it on Amazon. While waiting for it to ship, I decided to rent it from my school library in the mean time. I want to read it so bad, but I just can't stand how disgusting it feels. I have to wash my hands every single time I read.

Funny how all the human anatomy books were the ones with the sticky pages.

I sanitise every book I rent from the library. I rarely go bc I prefer clean new books and don't like the musty smell in libraries.

I used to work in a library when I was a teenager and we used to wipe down every book that came in returned with a sanitizing wipe , no joke! I guess that place doesn't do it but I agree, it is gross. I remember having to wipe the gunk off and that in itself was disgusting. I think it's normal but there are so many other things that you touch that actually have more grime on it than a library book. I don't even want to begin to list them all but each day, if you're out in public, there are at least 10 things you come in contact with that have more gunk on it than a book.

I find it strange to think of library use as "book rental".

Thank you! It is so disgusting. I don't want to have to go back to a library only to get sick from those nasty books. Why can't they take the initiative to clean those books?

I agree that rented books sometimes have a weird feel to it, but you might as well have some kind of phobia?

Lol yes. They always feel all sticky then leave that dirty feeling on your hands. Same with school textbooks
