Is it normal that i think roller skating is very nerdy and 80's?

Ok, my GF loves roller skating. Its her favorite hobby. She does more of what i call "dancing on skates" and is quite good. I just cant get into it. Most skaters are complete wierdos and setting foot in a rink is like watching a bad 80's movie. IIN?
