Is it normal that i treat my cat like my son

Is it normal that I treat my cat like he's my son? I've never had kids and yet I feel so attached to my 2 year-old Turkish angora. I buy him only the best food and give him shrimp treats almost every week. If I could I'd give him his own room with a bed. And all this really annoys my boyfriend. Like, he gets jealous of how much attention I give this cat. Am I normal or I am I too attached?

If your boyfriend is getting jealous of your cat.. um... how secure is he in your relationship? Better watch out, Puss gonna come steal your girlfriends. :P

While I try to keep them disciplined, I spoil the hell out of my two cats, call them my babies all the time. I love the hell out of these little fuckers.

Our relationship is great. My boyfriend has always had jealousy problems though...

And I do the same thing. I always call my cat my baby and he doesn't mind when I cradle him like one. Lol.

This sounds like he is possessive. Unless you treat the cat twice as well and neglect your bf. I do not see why he would be so upset. Its a cat!

I grew up calling my cats my brothers. My mom called them her kids. Now I obviously knew that the kittens were not my literal siblings, but I was so attached to them they were figuratively.

So yes, you're feelings are completely normal.

It's just fine. We are ALL animals. What's wrong with being attacthed to a member of another species?

Regardless of whether or not your behaviour towards your cat is normal, it seems weird for your boyfriend to feel threatened by a cat. I guess it depends on what kind of behaviour we're talking about, though. If you won't go places with your boyfriend because you don't like to leave your cat alone, for instance, then it's reasonable for your boyfriend to be alone. Do you live with your boyfriend? I feel like it's more understandable if you do. If you don't live with your boyfriend, though, and your cat doesn't really affect your relationship, I don't see why he's jealous.

  • some people treat their cat like a child but don't go overboard. maybe your bf is just getting a bit Jelious just spend a bit more time with your bf and he will stop moaning.

  • it's crazy.. I love dogs, but I'd never spoil it rotten. it should be a strong and capable guardian, not a lazy shit on my couch.

    Sorry, I don't get it :/

It's normal. If I had a pet, I would treat it that way as well. It's good to give love to your pets.
