Is it normal that i twist and sometimes pull the front of my hair?

I have the habit of twisting and sometimes pulling the front part of my hair (I'm a long-haired girl btw). I feel almost addicted to the twisting feeling of my fingers, and although I don't want to pull my hair out, sometimes a few hairs would fall out as a result of the twisting. I believe it's a nervous habit for me; my nervous habit used to be nail-biting but I stopped that when I got braces at age 12, and ever since then I took up hair-twisting. Do you think hair-twisting (in a nervous way not a flirty way) is normal? And if not, please comment how I could break the habit?

Habits are normal, in your case it doesnt really hurt your health in general but you will have less hair in the front over time. I too had quite alot of habits when I was a kid till around 11, 12. You are doing this subconscioually and my advicr would be to try to control it. Instead of twisting your hair, hold your leg tight or your arm or drink a glass of water. That way you can break the habit and it will go away with time, you wont even think about it.

Thank you for your helpful advice! I'm thinking of carrying around a little rubber squeeze ball in my pocket and squeezing it whenever I feel the urge to twist my hair.

That would be a great way to get rid of hair twisting. And at the same time it's a great exercise for your fingers. Also, do you twist your hair all the time or only when you are nervous or something ?

I started out doing it only when I'm nervous, but now, I do it without thinking, which happens sometimes when I'm not nervous.

It's a habit, and you'll stop when want to, or even, without knowing it. When I had longer hair (I'm a guy) years ago in h.s., I'd twist the back around a pen or something, into a knot, and yank it, pulling it out. Did it so often that the tall, gorgeous blonde (known for low-cut tops when doing guy's hair..better for tips) directly asked me "Are you pulling your hair out back here?", since it got thin on the ends. Told her no, but, she had to know I was lying and had the habit of doing that. Eventually stopped, just because.
