Aww, don't rely on the dog to learn a new way to communicate. Do what Lassie's owner did and learn dog language.

What's that, girl? Old Man Thompson's Mazda MX-5 washed away in the floods and his anti-coagulants were on the back seat beneath the peignoir he bought his significant other for Third Tuesday after Pentecost?

Why exactly did you choose a Mazda MX-5?

I'll be honest, my brain is a bit ropey at the moment. All the while I was typing my reply, I was thinking CX-5 because, even though we don't get them here, I knew that most people on the site would be familiar.

I'd have bet you money I'd typed CX-5. But the evidence is up there in black and white. Doubly annoying because don't you guys know the MX-5 as something else? I can pronounce it but I've never seen it spelled. Miyada / Miada / Miata?

Small consolation, at least I chose a nice subconscious swap. I really like MX-5s. :D

Lolz it is the Mazda Miata. I was just curious because I spend my day surrounded by Mazda's, as I am a sales rep for Mazda Motor America lolz.

umm, telling him to blink as a response isn't normal. i talk to my cat and she talks back to me when she looks at me and knows i'm talking to her so i just make up a response for them that i think they'd say and have conversations like that, most of the time she'd just tell me what i wanted to hear, but sometimes she'd put me in my place

I've done this on occasion with my dog, but most of the time it isn't needed. It's like he understands what is being said.

My dog would answer questions with a series of barks and wines. I never understood why she would respond this way when I asked her a question because she obviously didn't understand what I was saying!

Absolutely. I have several conversations with my dog daily. He is my greatest confidant.
