Is it normal that i want to get my dog a toy for every animal i see?

Whenever I see an animal, I feel an urge to get my dog a toy corresponding to that animal. I'm trying to build a veritable zoo for him. So far he has a fox, a rabbit, a sheep, a duck, a pig and a pig with a Christmassy hat. There are other animals he has too, like a little seal pup and a tiger. I've looked around all sorts of shops looking for other toys for him.

It's becoming something of a hobby and obsession for us both. I love seeing his giddy expression when I bring home a new animal toy for him. Yesterday I saw a babby playing with a toy puppy and I had to hold myself back from tearing it from the babby's hands and bringing it home for my dog.

Is this compulsion normal?

The dog could probably care less. To him it's just another fuzzy thing to chew on. But hey, whatever floats your boat I guess.

      Couldn't care less. COULDN'T! COOOOULDN'T! :)

But yeah I agree with you. "It's becoming something of a hobby and obsession for us both" is, in reality, "It's becoming something of a hobby and obsession for me, and my dog, like most dogs, likes to chew stuff."

I think OP feels better about it if he/she (probably she) pretends the dog is as enthusiastic as they are.

sometimes =} one of my dogs can strip a tennis ball in a matter of minutes then proceed to reduce the ball to crumbs. Even the $30 super kong will eventually be torn to pieces.

        • Haha. My dog tears up tennis balls as well. He even tried some surgery on rabbit, but I sewed him back up. Super kongs though, he would never break through. Congratulations to your dog :P

Last week I decided to buy the big kong tennis ball not realizing that it was a squeeker. Haha the dog scared himself every time he squeeked it. Well that damn $9 ball lasted about two hours. He strips it then pulls out the little plastic squeeker. I was not please that he dismantled it on my bed -_- there was a giant slobber spot and like a hundred pieces everywhere.

So far, that's totally cute and normal :) Your dog probably enjoys all the new, fluffy things to chew on and if it makes you feel happy, go for it! I love <3 buying my pooch new bones, balls and stuffed animals. Just make sure that the toys your buy are dog-friendly, or that you supervise your dog while he's playing. Even many dog toys can be teared apart and choked on easily, so just make sure you pup stays safe :)
As long as you don't get carried away, I think everyone has obsessions like that and yours is awefully cute ;P

Stay away from Zoos (and Toronto) and you'll save money.

  • Just take him to the zoo and throw him over the fence instead.
