Is it normal that i want to kill one of my students?

I have been teaching Grade 7 math for four years now, and I have actually been a popular teacher at the school I teach at. I am always nice and kind to my students, and I have never had a problem with one...until this year.

There is a boy in my class who is a nightmare. He talks back to me and he is rude and violent to the other students. His grades are plummeting to the bottom, and he dosen't seem to try.

His parents also have no idea how to handle him. Many people think he has ADHD, but he was tested a few years ago and it was not successful.

A few days before Christmas holidays, he threw a softball at my head. I got a severe bump on my head and he apparently was trying to get the attention of the class, so I sent him out.

After a few minutes,I left the room to talk to him. He was being very rude by spitting at me and pinching me while I was trying to talk to him calmly. He then made fun of my race (I am black) and called me a 'fat nigger'.

At this point,I couldn't take it. I am not known to lose my cool like this.

I punched him in the face. Several times.

I was recently suspended from my job and my future is uncertain at this school. The boy has been suspended for a week as well.

But this boy is out of control, and I know where he lives. I sometimes drive by his house at night and think about kidnapping and killing him.

Please tell me if this is normal...

Well I say kill that little bastard bitch. Especially from disrespectful of your race. You go out your way 5 days a week to teach these ungrateful little bastards and that's what you get for being an intelligence teacher. I wouldn't blame you if you did wanted to kill that fucker. That's the reason why I couldn't work around children because I would do some hard time in jail because of some disrespectful little dick.

I thought this was real at first, until I read the comments and started thinking...why didn't you send him to the principal's office when he assaulted you? That's what teachers did when I was in school. I can see it if someone loses their temper and gets physical, that happens a lot, but it would be common sense to report him to the principal right away.

This doesn't seem real... But if it is, do not risk losing your career over a kid that is going to make crap out of his life. Let him live and laugh when he sees how much he has failed. Also, you don't really know too much about his home life, maybe he is just acting out for attention or help.... Who knows? Just don't kill him.

#3) Everything I wrote input the child in #2 also applies to you... Including the possibility of jail time.

#4) A teacher know to never engage in a verbal or physical altercation with a student. The child is attempting to take control of the classroom (and your self-control) away from you... and will always win.

#5) You do not belong in a classroom. You are a violent person with a lack of self control. The moment you became frustrated with the child, you should have approached an administrator and/or the student's guidance counselor.

Hopefully, you might work out a deal with the school pending anger management classes and supplemental counseling.

You are human, and you made a mistake. What you do now will be a true test of your character. My advice is to admit your guilt, seek counseling, and think about a less stressful line of work.

I'm not so sure this is real.

#1) I would hope that a teacher would be intelligent enough to realize the act of throwing (and hitting you in the head with) a softball was assault on a member of the staff. The child would be removed from the school pending a superintendent's hearing.

#2). This kind of act on behalf of the child, if reported to the police, would result in criminal charges and all sorts of court related personnel would become involved in this kid's home and school life. You could also have asked for a restraining order, and the kid (if he returned to school) would have to be placed in a different math class.

  • I was dismissed from the school and I am not allowed to go within 10 km of the school. Not sure if I plan on teaching anymore...

you punched him? And you still have a job?

First of all - ADHD has NOTHING to do with being a violent prick. Stereotypes will not make you a good teacher, no matter how good you claim to be.

Second - talk to the school. If you can. Since you punched him however he can talk to them too and get you fired.

You may find yourself in a position where you have to put up with it or risk losing your job. After all, you're the adult. no?
