Unlike other subjects, math lessons build on eachother. So if you struggle early on you'll have problems for the rest of the year. Get help at what you are having problems with now, and pay attention in class. It's the one class you can't doze off in.
I'm the same way, and I even stopped going to my GED math classes a few months ago, because I didn't understand anything that was going on. Luckily, my teacher told me about khanacademy.com (a math website), and I've been using it for 2 hours a day, 5x's a week. I highly suggest that you at least give this website a chance, because I've gotten so much better at math since I started using it a couple months ago. Also, it's extremely important that you memorize all your multiplication tables, because you use it for pretty much everything in math. It'll help you A LOT.
Everybody is different and perceives things differently, so some people have an easier time at math than others would, so don't worry.
I am a math genius that has only an average level of verbal aptitude. (You have probably noticed some IINers write with more eloquence, and articulate ideas using strong argumentation.) My point is that many verbally gifted people like President Obama rise to unexpected fame despite having struggled to even comprehend eighth grade arithmetic.
That said, do your English homework first. Engineers that work simultaneous equations of partial derivatives for real-time flight control software in parallel architectures (like me) are in a league of their own.
Becoming adept at maths just requires a lot of practice. The more difficult concepts you learn the more you grow in a sense. I remembered being disgustingly terrible at maths before starting and practising at the subject...
