I kinda have the same fear.
There's this bridge that goes over a lake, and sometimes I have to cross it to get to a city near by, and I hate it.
I always fear that it will break and my car will crash into the lake, I can't swim either.
I think it makes a lot of people uncomfortable but most wouldn't turn around to avoid it. There's a bridge near me and the river underneath it floods when it rains a lot and I find it nerve wracking to drive over it. I will but I don't like doing it. It's more to do with the water for me, though, rather than a thing about heights. What are you like with lower bridges? If you ever go over any?
I know what you mean but for me, they make me uncomfortable regardless of whether or not I'm in a car. Actually, my fear worsens depending on the situation I'm in.
I hate driving over bridges too . I don't mind walking over them or being in a car if someone else drives me over the bridge . I live in the SF east bay area and I just take a bus or BART to get to SF ( and Bart goes under the bay by tunnel ) .
I'm afraid the bridge will start swaying back and forth and smash into a million pieces ):
omg!!! i have this fear too! everyone thinks im wierd. Now i know im not the onley one oh
You have know way into my town exept walking. Heres a story of you in a year.
You: Better get out it's a bridge.
-Gets out of car. Walks to other d
side.-
You: Well all shit! How the hell am I gonna get my car across?
Maybe it is because you feel in a car, if the bridge breaks and it's over water, you feel you could be stuck in the car but walking, you feel if it broke, you could swim? I'm not sure, just speculating
Nope. Get injured due to faulty construction once, and depending on how bad it is, you'll be financially set for a very long time.
That's completely normal. I work with two girls who don't even drive because they're afraid of driving.
Well, I guess that precludes moving to the SF Bay area. If you won't go over a bridge, it would take about 8 hours to drive from SF to Oakland and 12 or more to get to Marin, when it can be done in minutes if you'll cross a bridge. Seattle is also a bridgy place, I believe, and NYC but they have tunnels (also scary; a tunnel underwater; all that water above you). How in the world are you going to cross the Mississippi River, when the time comes?
Are you also afraid to fly (on an airplane, not by flapping your arms)?
I believe a lot of people feel as you do, (I do) but they are grown up enough not to let their fears rule their lives.
I guess you are not going to be an adventurer or traveler, but just pend your life between the 2 bridges on either side of your habitat.
Yes, it's normal, but I'd suggest consulting a doctor or perhaps a priest if you also have xeroderma pigmentosum and a garlic allergy.
