Is it normal that it pisses me off when people argue the dictionary?

Its the dictionary. If you are really going to delete that we lose all communication. You can not delete the dictionary or else we lose all sense of reason. It is like deleting math! What do we do with money! These type of people aim to send us into madness. How do you reason with someone who is insane? You must have some kind of existing structure or the world falls apart! I put this under school since they don't have an education section which I think would be a good add on.

          I actually didnt I deleted my comments and I guess it deleted yours. It said 6 comments and 3 of those were mine. I dont want to be reading my own comments. I prefer to wait for others to comment.

    I though you meant how people cut and paste definitions as a form of argument. I hate that.

      I mean people actually arguing the dictionary definitions. Saying that is impossible to give anything a definition. If you have no definition and do not use the dictionary you can not talk. Even simple words like "You" and "me" has some kind of definition. So to argue a dictionary means you have no base for the language you speak. Meaning you can not possibly be speaking to someone since you do not understand words or how to use them.

        People spoke long before written word was invented. Not that I think you should do away with dictionaries. but I've never heard anyone say that they want to do this.

        If the subject of dictionaries fascinates you, you should read, "The Professor and the Madman" by Simon Winchestor. It's about the formation of the first Oxford English dictinary and may give you some perspective on this pseudo debate.

          Yes and they still had a definition. So claiming that nothing has a definition means you can not communicate. So claiming the dictionary is a lie means you can not communicate in that language.

          The book is simply the rules written down in a book. So if you dismiss the book you dismiss those rules. So Its impossible to communicate without knowing the definition.

          So you are making an absurd statement. It is impossible to communicate if you have no definition to anything. The definition basically explains the word.

          If you have no idea what the word means you can not use it. If you use a word without knowing what it means you are speaking nonsense. So you can not delete definitions.

          Its like saying I ended the story without starting it. You need a base for everything you do. Just like learning another language is insanely difficult if you do not learn the alphabet. If not you are just memorizing phrases and probably are not going to be successful at learning it.

          Just like life began at one point which would mean at one point nothing existed. We must have a beginning to have an end. If not its impossible to have anything. These are the basic rules. These rules stand for everything. What came first the chicken or the egg? Well one did have to come first rights? That is the basic rule of nature. Life creates more life and existence creates more existence.

          The dictionary just has rules that already existed. So to act like definitions are worthless is claiming you do not want to speak/type/communicate. Yet by saying this you are communicating.
