Is it normal that my 19 month old is infatuated with the american flag

When I was just 2 months pregnant with my baby boy , my husband left to the Army. My whole pregnancy he was gone. He came home about a month an a half after my son was born. My husband brought my son an American Flag as a souvenir ! Till this day my son is infatuated with Flags!!! He is now 19 months old. He trips me out. I can b driving and he will see a flag and get soo excited. I just think its weird . Somebody please give me some advice on this ! Is it normal ?

Babies often associate objects with a person. When I was young myself I would look at a pair of shoes and would immediately think of Dad because the first thing I would see him doing is taking off his shoes when he came home.

They also associate objects with emotion, like the sense of security is a blanket or a teddy bear.

Pretty normal in my opinion and awwww it's so cute with your son and the flag.

Thank you! It just trips me out how infatuated he is with flags . Like i took him to a football game cause he loves football, but the whole time he stared at the flag!

Your son associates the flag with his daddy. So when he sees the flag he thinks "DAD!" So yes this is very normal. Maybe he will be inspired to join the service too one day.

Awwwww! :') Maybe he associates it with his father? I was like that with horses when i was younger because they reminded me of my grandfather. I still love horses to this day and i go horse riding regularly. The American flag is very bold with contrasting colours and patterns so maybe that also appeals to him? I'm Scottish but this story makes me feel oddly patriotic for America ;)
