That would be normal. How to prevent it? Make the plants inaccessable, or try something like oil of penny-royal to get the cat to avoid them. If neither of those help, one or the other (cat or plants) must go. On the bright side, the kitty is providing free fertilizer. Yeah, I know - pretty smelly!

Wish you people would not use the "s" word! Very vulgar and distasteful.

Put cayenne pepper in the soil. Cats HATE it.

Do u know why it poops in ur plants? It means it wants to go outside and shit on nature, remember that plants signifys trees and stuff. So try sending those kittys in the yard every once in a while and they will start shitting on the plants outside :-)

  • Make the litterbox more attractive.
Put tinfoil over the pots and around the base of the plant, to discourage future digging.

I have two cats, and neither of them has tried to poop in my plants, but one did like to sleep in the dirt (which was a disasterous mess).

If your cat pees in your plant, you'll have to replace the dirt because the ammonia in the urine with kill your plant.

Yes, the litter box should be kept clean but It actually doesn't matter about the cleanliness of the litter box. Cats are known for doing their business in potted plants. I've even caught cats doing it in the ones outside even though they have endless amounts of grass in which to pinch one off. Cats are just ridiculous. Haha!

It sounds like you're not emptying her litter tray often enough. Cats like cleanliness and will soon abandon the tray if it's not emptied enough or is unsuitable for the purpose.

I'd recommend emptying it twice a week and using some kitty-friendly products which reduce odour.
