Is it normal that my cat paws at my arm when he's sitting on my lap?

Okay so I have a male cat, probably 4 or 5 yrs old. He likes to lay on my lap when I'm using my computer, and he paws and hits my arm/hand when I move the computer mouse (haha trust me it doesn't look anything like a real mouse) and he does it like every time. Is this normal for cats?

I'm glad you clarified that a computer mouse looks nothing like a real mouse. I never would have known. Wait...people still use mice? And desktop computers?? I shouldn't talk, I use a typewriter and...aw shit, gotta go, my pager's blowin up yo!

Get off the computer. Play with the cat.

He's bored and looking for any kind of entertainment he can find. Very normal feline behavior.

He's petting you. Probably a learned behavior.

It really all depends on the cat and his or her mood at the time. Make sure kitty gets plenty of exercise and playtime with you in addition to lap time.
