Is it normal that my cat sleeps with her eyes open

Just this really. Cat usually has her eyes open when asleep. The white inner lid covers about half to two thirds of the portion of eye that is open. She looks like a zombie and it freaks me out.

Sleep with one eye open, clutching your catnip mouse toy tight!

  • lemme guess, she's been sleeping for the past two days? Denial, man..

Anyway, this seems odd. She has the inner eyelid covering the eyes partially, so it doesn't seem like a big health concern though.

I don't think it's a health thing, she has her regular vet check ups and up to date with everything, she seems perfectly fine.

I was just curious if anyone else's cats do this because I've owned a fair few over the years and I've never seen this before.

Also if my cat was dead I would definitely go wacko and act like she was still alive and keep feeding her and stuff. It would be a pathetic display.

I've heard that if cats were bigger, they would eat their owners. I adore my cat but she is very stroppy and demanding. I've often thought that she would eat me if I displeased her.

She's a little cow cat. (Domestic shorthair)

She was the runt of the litter. The shelter found her alone at the side of the road only 5 weeks old, and her tail had been mangled a bit. Poor little thing. She's in great health now though, you would never guess except that her tail has a weird crooked shape and when she gets really excited it she shakes. It's quite cute actually, doesn't seem to cause her any pain

I had a three-legged orange tabby, and he used to get this phantom limb thing when he would try to scratch his left ear with the foot that wasn't there. I would have to talk him down, so he could come to me, and I could scratch it for him. He would get kinda shakey when that happened.

My cat now is a male blue point Siamese, and he's just a little sweetie who wants to cuddle all day. When I get up to do stuff he follows me around, and talks a lot. I'm spoiled.

They are wonderful creatures. I am one of those strange people who likes cats and dogs equally, but I don't currently own a dog and I've really fallen in love with this cat. She's very demanding and talks a lot when you want to sleep which can get on my nerves, but she's such a big personality. Really is a member of the household as much as any of us.

I don't want to wake her. It's not her fault she sleeps like a terrifying undead creature. I was just wondering if anyone else's cat does this.

It even freaks my kids out.

I had a dog that slept with it's eyes a little open. I think it was just cause it was really old and it's lids were messed up.

          Awe. Sounds kind of cute.

My cat is young and has no eye problems. I think this is just one of those things.

She's very beautiful when awake so it makes up for it I suppose.
